Quantum Leap TV movie

According to this Sci-Fi Wire article the Sci-Fi channel will be making a TV movie based on Quantum Leap and a weekly series based on Tremors. It also sounds like any other Universal property is fair game if they think there’s a market for it. Are there any other Universal properties you’d like to see on the small screen?

Why Not ‘Back To The Future: The TV Show’?

I could be imagining it, but wasn’t there a BTTF animated series at some point?

      • Re: Back To The Future?

Yes, Doctor Brown and his two kids, Jules and Verne travel through time in a flying train, with Chris Loyd and Steamburgeon (sp?) reprising their roles in voice. I think the McFly char was on occasionally too, but don’t quote me on that, as if he was, it was likely NOT Michael J. Fox, but it was the original Doc Brown and Clara, believe me!

BTW, is it a coincidence that Steamburgeon (sp??) also starred in the 1980 movie “Time After Time” about H. G. Wells chasing Jack the Ripper into 1980. One of my favourite movies, actually. :)

  1. new actor to play Sam?
Since this movie is supposed to serve as a pilot for a possible series, and I can’t imagine Scott Bakula leaving Enterprise to work on Quantum Leap again, does that mean a new actor will play Sam? I hope not… it just won’t be the same without both Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell.

I’d rather see them send a new leaper out to find Sam than
cast another actor in his role. They could probably get
Scott Bakula to go a cameo in the movie, or the occasional
      guest spot on the show.

Did not the series end with the statement that Sam never returned? Along with a bunch of other stuff about how he was really controlling where he went and what he did. Seems to be what I recall.

It said he never returned home, and that
he’d continute leaping for as long as he wanted to. It
said that he could leap home any time he wanted, but there
was no other indications of any level of control. The
text at the end of the episode said he never returned
home. Every time I watch that series finale, I’m more and
more impressed by it. It may have pissed off a lot of
fans, but it was perfect for the characters.

It bothered me, an casual viewer, quite a bit for one reason, and one reason alone: Al gets reunited with his wife, but Sam never does!!! I mean, if they never introduced a wife for Sam I’d have no problem with him leaping on into infinity, but even if he is forced to forget her, as well as we the viewer, the fact remains in the continuity of the series that his briliant Physicist wife and partner loves him more than life itself and although she sympathises with the mission she must be lonely. Could he not at least return home to see her occasionally on sabottical after saving the Calivuchis? I mean really!

Anyway, so my call is, new leaper: Mrs. Sam Becket!!! Not only is she smart enough, caring enough, she even has a MOTIVATION to find Sam!

I always took that to mean that he changed his own past in some way and as such could never ‘return home’ but that he ‘went home’ to a new future… but that was me overlaying an interpretation.

As for the new series I’d really like to see a series dedicated to the ‘evil leaper’ that was introduced in a few episodes.

I don’t care as much about the new leaper as I do about whether Dean Stockwell would come back as Al or if there’d be a new one. I always get more attached to the comic relief. =)

Who’s this “evil leaper”? I don’t think I ever saw any of those episodes.

You saw enough to know that it was
strongly implied that Sam was doing the work of a
benevelant higher power, right? Well, there was a leaper
who was working for someone else, actively trying to mess
up people’s lives. If you get Space: The Imagination
              Station
, then you could have watched the first episode
              with that leaper this morning.

One of the more memorable episodes that mentions the evil leaper is the one where Sam leaps into uh… the writer who thinks his girlfriend is trying to kill him. They introduce Steven “Stevie” King. Sam gets knocked out and the evil leaper shows up as Al. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it because I’m never home when Sci-Fi airs it at 4pm EST

                  That episode (#36, “The Boogieman”)
didn’t mention the evil leaper, who first appeared in
episode #82, “Deliver Us From Evil.”

Then what am I thinking of? Something happened with Al… I was thinking it was the evil leaper. We’ve got all the books at home, it’s just been so long.

It was neither Al nor the evil leaper.
Well, not that evil leaper. Something pretending
to be Al tried to kill Sam, demanding to know who gave him
the right to fix what he’d made wrong.
