  1. This is very off topic but I wanted to know if anyone else was enjoying comics on an iPad. I received mine last Saturday and I’ve already sunk about $60 on comics between the Marvel and X-Comic apps. I also have the Arcreader app that allows me to view the Manga scans I download in CBZ format.

Filling back issues on my favorites series that, for one reason or another, I never picked up has been the main draw. I’m seriously loving it :)

I do see the downsides of not owning the physical copy. It now becomes merely entertainment rather than an investment as I used to justify it. I’m also a bit concerned for the small corner stores. I stopped ordering from mine several years ago because stopping in to pick up my reserve was a bit inconvenient. I hope they eventually find a good middle ground, such as a physical copy will allow you to redeem the digital one as well or at least redeem it at a discount.

How about you fiziko? I remember you tried Marvel’s digital offering through their website a few years ago, have you had a chance to compare the iPad offering to that?

PS. Sorry for the long post.

    • I haven’t tried the iPad yet. I’ve played with them on my iPhone, and the screen there is just too small. I’m tempted to look into the iPad, but at this time, it would be for the comics only. I also suspect I’d stick mostly to the physical copies for main titles, and use the digitals to try out the smaller titles or the iffy ones. I may consider it, but I’d need other uses for the iPad before I can justify the purchase.

    • Do the iPad comics have DRM? If so, you could (someday in the future) lose the ability to read them if the DRM servers stop being maintained.

  2. Quick correction – Serenity: Float Out is not an anthology; it’s a story about some of Wash’s friends telling stories about Wash, but there is a definite series of activities and discussions going on around those internal stories.

I’m a huge fan of Firefly/Serenity, and while this had some very interesting moments – especially the end panel – this wasn’t a big deal. Not a lot happens, but it was very nice to see some past moments from Wash’s life.

But that end panel makes it worth the read…
