Wil Wheaton cut from Nemesis

Yeah, it’s been reported everywhere else, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t put our two cents in. Wil’s own web site has his heartfelt feelings on the matter.

Looks like it was nothing personal, just that the movie clocked in at three hours long. Anyone else smell a special edition DVD release?

  1. Perhaps a bit off topic, but…
..Is this going to be a part of the future in movie making, shooting movies that are (quite possibly) too long to release in theatres, and then simply chopping out what’s not essential to the story for the theatre release, but then including the whole extended film on the DVD release? They’d be really smart to do that with this film, and I’d really like to see more deleted scenes from movies on dvd releases. Perhaps it’s just the movies I’ve purchased, but there are probaby more deleted scenes in the several seasons of X-Files I own than on the 40 some movies I have on DVD.

The only new part of the practice is the fact that they’re
saving the deleted scenes for DVD now. Movies have been
      subjected to
cuts like this for at least 30 years. (That’s when they
starting comparing the movie income opening weekend to the
length of the movie.) There was a movie called “The Cure
For Insomnia” that had over 70 hours cut before it was
first shown. (I think that brought it down to 16 hours or
      so.)

  2. Bites
I read about this on Slashdot. That sucks. Wesley wasn’t my favorite character in all the world, but if this is truly the last Next Gen movie, he deserved to be in it. What’s a couple minutes, for crying out loud?

You’ve gotta look at things from the director/producer point of view. They aren’t there to make the last TNG film, they’re there to make a good movie that lots of people (not just us Trek fans) will show up in hordes to watch. We may not agree (I certainly don’t), but that’s not what pays the bills in Hollywood. The fans will get all they want in the DVD release and that’s just how things are going to work in future.

This will fine with me, especially after I get that big-a** home theater built in the basement.

  3. Wil who? heh
    I personally don’t care.
His character sucked in TNG, he’s annoying for doing all the whining about it, and lets face it, the movie isn’t about him (he plays no important role). I’d rather see a really rockin Star Trek movie with no Wil Wheaton than a mediocre one with him in it. I’m not interested in him, I’m interested in Star Trek.

I think he is simply suffering from not having a main character. Thats just tough, thats life, get over it.
If he were a spectacular actor and awesome person, he’d have a waiting list of roles to play. He doesn’t, which means he’s like most of Hollywood actors who got a lucky break once and now has to deal with it my getting a real job like the rest of us.

    end rant.

    I’m not sympathetic.
