Season six kicked off right after “Smallville” last night. What do we think of the start to the new year?

It was a decent setup, especially given grandpa’s questionable actions, motive, etc.
I wonder if they will play it safe and stay mainly episodic, or turn this into a multi-season arc again. It might be hard to plan another one out like they had at this point. Can’t really assume the show will go on for 5 more seasons.
Rumor has it the creator pitched the show originally as a five year arc, but that he went to the network with a revised eight year plan in early season five.
According to Wikipedia the show was originally written for three seasons but extended to five seasons. This past year he fleshed out a plan for a three-season continuation, with Sera Gamble taking over as the Showrunner.
