What’s ‘Big Time’?

Ooooh, that Spider Girl, Araña. I realize they closed down May “MayDay” Parker’s line, but trying to make a regular Marvel continuity character into her is lame.
Not that I have a better suggestion for them. A lot of May’s charm is her dealing with her situation of being Peter Parker and Mary Jane’s daughter and a high school student, and if Marvel were to try to bring her into the Earth-616’s universe it would destroy that. Sort of like if they tried to bring Spider-Man 2099 into it.
(Anyone else notice that alternate continuities they start up seem to linger on through the Spider-Man type character?)
Agreed– though this will be an entirely different character. I don’t think, even, that she has superpowers. The connection, then, becomes more akin to the one between the Silver Age and the Connor Kent Superboys. They have the same name (keeping a trademark alive, and all), but they’re entirely different characters who fail or succeed on their own terms.
I’ve been listening to a ~90 minute interview with Dan Slott on the Word Balloon podcast. Man, is he excited about Big Time, and everything else he’s been working on lately. The interview is an excellent reminder that these days creators of stuff like comics are also huge fans who grew up with it all. You can almost hear him bouncing up and down as he talks about Big Time (in vague, spoiler-free terms) and other stuff.
And he’s still stoked about all the voice actors he got to work with while he was writing the “Shattered Dimensions” video game. I swear he squees when he talks about writing dialog for Stan Lee. :) (And who can blame him?)
It’s a great interview. And if the creator is this excited about it, and is this much of a fan, and cares this much about telling a good story, Big Time is probably pretty decent. :)
