Batman 3 Villains Revealed

It’s finally out, who will be the big bad guys in the Christopher Nolan’s third (and probably final) Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.

Word is out that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. On top of that, Tom Hardy (Shinzon from Star Trek: Nemesis) will be cast as Bane.

While I was personally still holding out for The Riddler, this could be a good thing, especially if Nolan stays close to the comic version of Bane (and we shall never EVER speak of that other version). For those unfamiliar at how dangerous Bane is (both physically and mentally) grab the Knightfall series (either in comic or novel form).

I think we’re all familiar with Catwoman, perhaps a little too familiar. What can Anne Hathaway bring to the character that will keep it fresh and raw like the last two films?

  1. Not crazy about the two-villain approach, but Bane has never been done correctly on the big screen.

    Then again….

…neither has Catwoman. We’ve never seen the character as DC has been presenting her since (at least) the 1980s. That could be something to watch.

  2. Not crazy about this news at all. Bane is a beast, physically. Tom Hardy doesn’t seem big enough to be Bane (I agree with making him smart, though). Plus, I’m not sure how well Bane fits in with the Nolan-verse. Mind you, I didn’t think Heath Ledger could ever be the Joker, and he redefined the role, so, who knows. This may work. I would have liked to see somebody like Hush instead (anti-Bruce Wayne). Or maybe Black Mask. Heck, even the current DC version of Penguin wouldn’t have been too bad (either of those two would work with more of a mob-film angle). As for the multiple villian approach, Nolan’s had two villians in each of the previous films, so it makes sense that he’s working this angle again.

  3. My initial reaction was also skepticism. We’ve seen Catwoman done poorly a few times, and the inclusion of Bane just makes me think of how lame Doomsday was on Smallville.

There’s a critical difference, though: I have yet to see Chris Nolan misfire. If it was anyone else at the helm, I’d assume this would suck, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Besides, as far as Bane goes, Nolan has said he only wanted to make three Batman movies…
