  1. High Points
My Favorite Was Willow, Leaning Over To Xander, Who’s Brain Was Rebooting Because He’d Just Gotten Hot Over Dawn:
    “Right There With Ya…”

Also, A Very Subtle Refrence To Oz:
Everytime Someone Looked At R.J., They Played The Instrumental ‘Theme From A Summer Place’, Which, Along With A Feather Boa, Is What Oz Claims Will Get Him Hot.

  2. Mixed-feelings
This episode didn’t feel up to the standards that have been set for Buffy. The story was good and had some funnies but the post-production felt sloppy.

The editing had a jarring feel that made it hard for me to get comfortable with the episode.

  3. Good ep
I liked this one. The “magic jacket” was kind of a McGuffin (plot device) but such things are, as we know, surprisingly common above the Hellmouth. I loved the 70’s style split screen portion, with the bow-chucka music… and in typical Joss-ian fashion, the very un-funny image of poor Dawn lying on the train tracks.

A lot of people on Usenet commented that the first ~10 minutes with Dawn humiliating herself for RJ were “painful to watch”, to which I say “right there with ya…” :-) It’s been 10 years since high school and I still remember how things could go so horribly awry as a teenager. Very effective.

      Useless Trivia:

      1) Although McGuffins have been used for millennia in stories, the creation of the term is attributed to Alfred Hitchcock.

      2) Among the Buffy writers, the supernatural element in the script (in this case, the jacket) is called “phlebotinin”–a made-up word similar to McGuffin. [Note: the spelling varies among the writers, I’m using the one that appears in the Watcher’s Guides.]

It’s interesting that the Greek root phlebo- means “vein”! E.g. phlebotomy is the cutting of a vein, phlebitis is inflamation of a vein, etc.

  4. A good laugh…
After having seen this latest episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer I am still smarting from laughter. This was definitely one of the memorable ones. A letter jacket with a charm spell that makes girls goes gaga for the wearer; what a hoot! The fact that it started out with Dawn threw me for a slight loop. No indication of magic at first. I thought the story would involve her girlhood crush and thought, okaaay. I should have known better. Then the slow revelation that something is amiss with first her, then others. Finally, the “charmed ones” individual acts of devotion nearly had me lose control of my bodily functions while Zander and Spike run about to quell the girls acts of devotion. Other than Dawn’s act, not that it wasn’t warranted for the character, they were just good humor! Willows’ particular solution to that slight problem of her vs him? ROTF. Buffy at the window with the clueless principal literally had me howling. Finally Anya was at her charming best in black ready to steal his affections, showing me once again why this show is one of my favorites

Wholeheartedly Agreed! I Loved Seeing The Back And Forth Over The Bazooka.

hey, Where Did She Get A Bazooka?

Also, I Think We’re Supposed To Believe That Anya DID Rob Those banks, That’s Why She Had Enough Money to Treate Everyone To Breakfast.

  5. drunken stupor
So, in Sunnydale, the girls that are slutty crush-puppies to the
quarterback have a supernatural explanation…what’s the rest of
    the world’s excuse?

The end of the show was pretty funny, the bit where Spike wrestles
the bazooka out of Buffy’s grasp had me laughing out loud, and the
split screen bit was cute. And I gotta admit that I was waiting to see
how Willow would react to the jacket : )

  6. Loved it
I loved this eppy it was soooo funny. My fave part was when Spike tackled buffy right before she launched the rocket. Also when Willow and Anya were fighting over RJ.

    Fave Quotes_

Willow- But you don’t even know him.
Anya- Yes I do! I looked into him and I saw his soul.
Willow- He was walking away so unless his soul was in his ass.

Anya- Well your going to have to do better than that I’d kill for him!
Willow- You’d kill for a chocolate bar.

Buffy- Xander, be honest. You didn’t, you know, think about slipping that jacket on just a little bit?
Xander- I refuse to answer that on the grounds that it didn’t fit
