Anybody reading Cinderella Fables are Forever? Totally missed the beginning of this series and wondering if I should go find the first few issues.
I’ve heard the Ultimate Spider-Man series is very good. Any idea whether they’re doing something interesting with his death here? I mean, in spite of all the press releases and news stories, (a) it’s in the “Ultimate” universe, so not like “they’re killing him off” in the main stream, and (b) I can’t imagine anybody honestly believes this is permanent.
It _could_ be permanent; I could imagine they decide to do the rest of the Ultimate universe without Spider-Man. (Though I doubt it.) But I can’t imagine anybody getting one of those press releases seeing this as anything but a cheap publicity stunt, even if it isn’t. People believed it with the Death of Superman, but after he came back (quietly, within a few months) will anybody ever swallow it again?
But my original question is the most interesting: are they going anywhere interesting with this? Just curious.
Well, the Ultimate Universe has already killed off a lot of its characters without bringing them back, including Wolverine, Daredevil, Cyclops and others. They really could kill Spider-Man for good over there. My concern is that Ultimate Spider-Man is the only Ultimate title to date that has been consistently good since the launch. If they really do take it off the table, I’d be very concerned with the direction of the line. It’s also entirely possible, given recent storylines, that Peter Parker survives and takes on a new identity. We should know more by July or so.
Wow. Interesting — I wouldn’t have expected that from any major comic company. They’re really taking advantage of the alternate continuity playground! (I figured they’d largely mirror the past 40 years of comics but tell the stories more consistently. Glad to hear they’re instead going with (hopefully) good story.)
