| Alex: I managed to the first half of this series (which is what this DVD entails) of this fansubbed at my local anime club before it was licensed. What I saw of this series, which is a somewhat episodic affair set in an world that’s kind of an alternate Europe between World War I and II, really impressed me, and I enjoyed it immensely. | ||

Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “the Criterion Collection edition of Chasing Amy has been rereleased for $14.98 MSRP, currently listed at $11.99. Great movie, great DVD, great price. If you don’t have it already, it’s a no brainer.” Alex says, “I really like Project A-Ko, but I’ve got a special place in my heart for Allison & Lillia, which I’m making my Pick of the Week.”
Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos is family? That’s surprising!
It was a Saturday morning Hanna Barbarra cartoon.
I don’t usually champion remakes but I think “The Five Deadly Venoms” deserves one. I must have watched it at least 20 times growing up. At the time, before the Matrix changed everything, it had the best and over the top choreagraphed martial arts I had seen.
The story was a great twist on the revenge formula and the differing styles were unique.
Unfortunately it’s dated and the youth of this generation can’t appreciate it because of all the cornball dialogue and cheap special effects. Redone properly it could be quite amazing and capture a whole new generation of fans.
