Weekly Comics Discussion – August 3, 2011

The complete list of titles is available here.

UPDATE: And for those of you who haven’t heard, Marvel’s Ultimate Universe is getting a new Spider-man this September.

Dark Horse Comics

  • KULT #1 (OF 4)
  • STAR WARS DARK TIMES OUT O/T WILDERNESS #1 (OF 5)
  • USAGI YOJIMBO #139

DC Comics

  • ADVENTURE COMICS #529
  • BATMAN ARKHAM CITY #4 (OF 5)
  • BATMAN BEYOND #8 – The last issue for a while. When asked about “Batman Beyond” at the San Diego Comic Con, DC Co-Publisher Dan Dideo told the fan “there is another wave of titles coming a few months after September. If you are happy now, you will be three times happier then.” I’d say Batman Beyond is a safe bet, as is Superman Beyond, but I don’t know what the third Beyond title might be.
  • BATMAN GATES OF GOTHAM #4 (OF 5)
  • DC RETROACTIVE BATMAN THE 80S #1
  • DC RETROACTIVE THE FLASH THE 80S #1
  • DC RETROACTIVE WONDER WOMAN THE 80S #1
  • FLASHPOINT #4 (OF 5)
  • FLASHPOINT BATMAN KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE #3 (OF 3)
  • FLASHPOINT DEATHSTROKE THE CURSE OF RAVAGER #3 (OF 3)
  • FLASHPOINT SECRET SEVEN #3 (OF 3)
  • FLASHPOINT THE WORLD OF FLASHPOINT #3 (OF 3)
  • GREEN LANTERN SUPER SPECTACULAR #2
  • SCALPED #51
  • SECRET SIX #36
  • SUPERBOY #10
  • SUPERMAN #714 – The last chapter of “Grounded.” I do not envy Chris Roberson; that’s a fast track to a resolution as I read what’s happened so far.

IDW Comics

  • 30 DAYS OF NIGHT NIGHT AGAIN #4 (OF 4)
  • DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS #9
  • GI JOE VOL 2 ONGOING #4
  • SUICIDE GIRLS #4 (OF 4)
  • WALTER SIMONSON THOR ARTIST ED HC
  • WYNONNA EARP YETI WARS #4

Image Comics

  • 50 GIRLS 50 #3 (OF 4)
  • GREEN WAKE #5
  • INFINITE #1
  • MORIARTY #4
  • SAVAGE DRAGON #172
  • SEVERED #1
  • WALKING DEAD WEEKLY #31

Marvel Comics

  • 15 LOVE #3 (OF 3)
  • AVENGERS ACADEMY #17 – Fear Itself
  • DARK TOWER GUNSLINGER BATTLE OF TULL #3 (OF 5)
  • FEAR ITSELF WOLVERINE #2 (OF 3)
  • HERC – Fear Itself
  • HEROES FOR HIRE #10 – Fear Itself, a great series, and relaunching in November as “Villains For Hire” for a 0.1 issue and then 5 regular issues, before relaunching yet again. Abnett and Lanning have plans here, people. If you aren’t reading it, you don’t know what you’re missing.
  • HULK #38 – Fear Itself
  • IRON MAN 2.0 #7.1
  • MOON KNIGHT #4
  • MYSTIC #1 (OF 4) – A Crossgen relaunch
  • PUNISHER #1 – The third of the “Big Shots” relaunches, after Moon Knight and Daredevil. By Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto. I’m really not a Punisher fan, but I have to admit, that’s the team I’d want to see on the book.
  • RED SKULL #2 (OF 5)
  • SHIELD #2 – The second volume (ninth issue out of thirteen) by Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver. Part of the same big picture as the recently reviewed Secret Warriors.
  • SPIDER-MAN POWER COMES RESPONSIBILITY #5 (OF 7)
  • THUNDERBOLTS #161 – Fear Itself
  • ULTIMATE COMICS FALLOUT #4 (OF 6) – Death of Spider-Man tie-in, which probably should have been “Death of Peter Parker,” given that Peter is dead and buried and someone else is revealed as the new Spider-Man this issue. I’ve been spoiled, and it sounds interesting. I dropped the Ultimate universe to make room for DC relaunch titles, but I’ll probably catch up on this and Jonathan Hickman’s titles at some point down the road.
  • WOLVERINE #13
  • X-23 #13

Other Companies

  • BEST OF ARCHIE COMICS TP – I’m not an Archie fan, but given the sheer volume of material here, $9.99 means this is either a great deal or such a small book that they picked the content very selectively.
  • BOYS #57
  • IRREDEEMABLE #28
  • MEGAMIND #3
  • MEGAMIND #4
  • ZORRO RIDES AGAIN #1
