Movie Discussion: Apollo 18

I’d been hoping this film would be a unique twist on the “found footage” horror genre, or at least successful enough to initiate a laugh-a-minute debate between dueling conspiracy theorists, but reviews suggest Apollo 18 is the cinematic equivalent of space-junk.

Has anyone seen it? Did anyone like it? Does anyone want to discuss it?

Apollo 18 makes a mess of a good idea.”
–Dan Kroelsch, Movieviral

“In space, no one can here you scream, but frustrated sighs are another matter.”
–Keith Phipps, AV Club.

“I can only assume this movie is for people who know virtually nothing about the space program. For starters, where do you launch a Saturn V rocket– the equivalent of hurling the Chrysler Building into space– where no one will notice?”
–Jim Slotek, Sun Media.

Apollo 18 fails to stay with you because, like the cratered satellite on which it’s set, it has no atmosphere.”
–Keith Staskiewicz, Entertainment Weekly.

Apollo 18 fulfills no expectations except those of the low quality of films released over Labor Day weekend, a notorious dumping ground for studio dreck.
–Todd Gilchrist, The Playlist.

Apollo 18 is also a pretty nifty album by They Might Be Giants.
