This week’s shipping
list has a grand total of one item I’ll be picking
up, and that’s Ultimates 2 #7. Other
notables include Day of Vengence #4, getting
ready for this October’s Infinite Crisis,
JSA Classified #1, Astonishing X-Men
#11 (which I’ll get in TPB form), Daredevil
#75 (which I’ll get in TPB form), Defenders
#1 (of 5) (which launches the new miniseries),
Doctor Spectrum: Full Spectrum in TPB form
(which I should get around to reviewing, as I have the
issues; it really doesn’t add much, and certainly
isn’t a “must read”), new printings of Essential
Spider-Man volumes 2 and 3, Exiles #67
(which I’ll get as a TPB), House of M #4,
Marvel Knights 4 #20, The Pulse Vol.
2 (which I should also get around to reviewing;
it’s not bad, but must work as a companion piece to
the main title), and Ultimate Spider-Man #80
(which I’ll also get in TPB form.)

“American Gothic” (probably) coming to DVD this October
My favourite television series of all time is finally
coming to DVD, according to this
TV Shows on DVD article. I’ll be saving my
pennies to spend on October 25, and I strongly suggest
you do the same. I don’t see how this wouldn’t be the
pick of the week in that week’s DVD column.

Stargate “Get The Gate” Sweepstakes
chad
writes, SciFi has updated the web site
for the Get In The Gate sweepstakes. You can now enter
the contest provided you are a registered member of
scifi.com. The winner (and a friend) will be given
airfare to Vancouver, hotel accommodations, and a
walk-on part in both Stargate SG-1 and
Stargate Atlantis.
CoMers Episode 9: Discovery is live
Anonymous Coward writes,

We’ve reached the 3/5ths point for those hung up on
fractions!
To see all the episodes click here.
I also wanted to take a minute and really extend my
thanks to bureau42 for their ongoing support, almost
since the beginning. It’s a fun site that I check
almost daily, without all the pretense and geekier
then thou attitude, yet still fun and indepth.
Weekly Comics Discussion – July 13, 2005
This week’s shipping
list has a few items of interest. First and
foremost: Dark Horse’s Serenity prequel
trilogy, written by Joss Whedon, hits shelves today in
three variant covers. (Do you folks want this
reviewed an issue at a time, or all three issues
together?) Interested shoppers can also find
Essential Killraven Vol. 1, New Avengers
#7, Ultimate Fantastic Four #21 (marking
the return of Mark Millar and a cross-over with the
regular Marvel Universe), Ultimate X-Men #61
(which I’ll get in TPB form later on) and Ultimate
X-Men Vol. 11: The Most Dangerous Game. Also
available are X-Men: The End: Book 2: Heroes and
Martyrs #5 of 6, another one I’ll get in TPB
form, Superman / Batman Vol. 3: Absolute
Power in hardcover (I’m holding out for
paperback), Rann Thanagar War #3, All
Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder #1
(featuring the return of Frank Miller to writing
Batman, with Jim Lee on pencils), Marvel Knights 4
Vol. 3 in TPB form, and new printings of
Essential Avengers Vol. 1 and Essential
Thor Vol. 1, both of which have been reviewed.
(Those reviews can be found through this
page, which includes every review written under
the 42 point system.)
Movie Review – “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”
MGM tried a live action family film in 1968, that
prevented Dick van Dyke from working for Disney for
some time.
