There aren’t a lot of titles on the list this one, but there are some really great ones – including several films by Hayao Miyazaki.

Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “Sherlock: Season Two is the hands down winner.” Alex says, “Sherlock is indeed good, but the Miyazaki films are also worthy of your consideration – particularly if you’ve got a Blu-Ray player.”
I remember when Putney Swope came out. I saw it with my wife. I loved it, she hated it.
I’m debating ordering this.
I liked the second series of Sherlock better than the first, too – and I really liked the first. Probably a lot because I actually remember the original stories the second series episodes are based on.
I was a bit disappointed with the ending though.
Some interesting additions to Netflix streaming this week:
Drive – The movie being sued for not being more like Fast and the Furious.
He Was a Quiet Man – Christian Slater really gave it his all. An underrated gem.
Dragonslayer – 80s Disney movie which I have fond memories of but was kind of a flop.
Man on a Mission: Richard Garriott’s Road to the Stars – I was a huge fan of Garriott’s in the Ultima days so seeing a lot of the behind the scenes stuff during that time was a real treat.
That movie was boring. I wasn’t expecting Fast and the Furious pacing or anything but I nearly fell asleep. It wasn’t even boring in a respectable and artsy kind of way.
Ahh Fez, I have to disagree. The opening chase sequence is quite brilliant. The movie then builds up this nervous tension where you know something is going to go wrong and you just can’t wait to see it.
Unfortunately the ending is a mess, though how close it is to the book it’s based on, I’m not sure.
It’s a must-see in my opinion!
It did have its moments, especially the beginning, but I wouldn’t call what happened between the action “tension”… It was more like what happens when the alarm goes off in the morning, sure there’s a lot of action, but then you hit the snooze button and go back to sleep for a while, then you alarm again, then snooze, then you finally decide to get up and roll out of bed.
Speaking of chase sequences, it’s been far too long since I’ve watched Ronin. Random tangent of the day there.
