M:I III manages to stay on top, despite losing 1/2 its audience from last week. Even sadder is Poseidon’s $20 million in its opening week. Apparently the suits in Hollywood thought that dropping “Adventure” from the title would make us all forget that we’ve seen this movie already! Silly suits.

Good
You know, I’m glad. I’m glad that an obvious remake didn’t make it very big. I only wish it dind’t lose out to a sequel that by most accounts isn’t very good.
Anyone want to lay odds on whether or not Da Vinci Code breaks box office records for opening weekend?
.
I’ve decided I’m actually going to refer to it as "The Duh Vinci Code".
Re: Good
Number one? Yes. Records? I’m going to guess, no.
Of course, the crowd that’s offended by this movie doesn’t typically go to movies (It was this crowd that made "The Passion of the Christ" such a massive hit).
Re: Good
Not only is it a remake, but they just remade the damn thing for TV last year. Hollywood really needs to rethink some of it’s strategies.
Re: Good
Didn’t know that, but sure enough it was remade last year. -2 for remake, but +2 for Rutger Hauer.
Re: Good
So you were the one who watched the tv remake.
I just hope this version has a decent theme song. "The Morning After," from the original, became the song of choice for incompetent girl singers at talent shows in the 1970s.
Re: Good
Heh, you wish, I purposely avoided that channel that night.
Re: Good
As I understand it, Hallmark/NBC did the TV remake to capitalize on, and steal thunder from, the WB theatrical version that was already in production.
A similar thing happend a few years back with Twister and Tornado.
Re: Good
I wish I had gone to MI3 the opening weekend, after hearing that some people were deliberately avoiding it because the press has had a fascination with Tom Cruise and over exposed him. Why should he get excoriated for the idiot press?
summer films
I know! We can make a movie about snakes on a sinking ship that contains Jesus’s marriage license. We’ll all be rich, rich I tell you.
Re: summer films
Mutant snakes, voiced by Ian McKellen. There’s your gold mine.
Re: Good
No records. I really doubt the Da Vinci Code movie will be even half as good as the book.
