So, due to my latest trip out of town, this column is coming out a bit late. This week’s should be okay; I don’t leave town again until either late Sunday or early Monday.
First, the genre releases:
- Alvin and the Chipmunks – A Chipmunk Christmas: The 25th Anniversary Special Edition
- Beowulf and Grendel: One of several adaptations of this story due out shortly.
- Danger Mouse: The Final Seasons
- The Dead Zone – Special Collector’s Edition: The movie, not the series.
- Dick Tracy: The Complete Animated Series
- Dracula: A 75th Anniversary Special Edition of the original. This has the bonus features the Legacy Collection lacks, but it doesn’t have the other four movies.
- Eleventh Hour: All four episodes of the series.
- Frankenstein: A similar 75th Anniversary Special Edition to the Dracula one.
- Frankenstein: The True Story: A 1973 film about what happened before the novel was written.
- Gormenghast: The BBC series.
- Nightmare on Elm Street (Two Disk Infinifilm Edition)
- Pet Semetary: A Special Collector’s Edition
- Riptide – Complete First Season: Crime fighters with a robot. Classic cheese.
- Stephen King Collection: Includes “Dead Zone,” “Pet Semetary,” “Silver Bullet” and “Graveyard Shift.”
- Transformers Armada: Season One, Part Two
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Atomic Bomb Collection: Three documentaries about the atomic bomb.
- Brotherhood – Complete First Season
- Daniel Boone – Season One
- Daniel Boone – Season Two
- Digging for the Truth – Complete Season One
- Docurama Film Festival, Vol. 2
- Ellen – Complete Season Four
- Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift: Those of us who caught American Gothic know that Lucas Black deserves much, much better than this. Also available in HD DVD.
- Forgotten Noir Collector’s Set: This collects the first three volumes. Volume one has been out for a while, but volumes 2 and 3 come out this week. This is cheaper than buying any two of them individually, though.
- Hugo Pool
- The Lake House
- Mama’s Family – The Complete First Season
- The Notorious Betty Page: The recent well-received biographical film. Most decidedly not a family film.
- One Tree Hill – Complete Third Season
- Whose Line Is It Anyway? Season One, Volume One: Also available in a censored version, but if you’ve seen the show, you know that’ll cut out the funniest parts.
Finally, the pick of the week. I’ve got to go with the Dracula release. It’s a classic that still mostly holds up.
Lake House
Purely based on the synopsis I’d have thought The Lake House would qualify as genre. Of course I haven’t seen it so I could be way off ;)
