Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “I’m going with Troy – I think the film is somewhat underrated, though it does eschew the more supernatural elements of The Odyssey.” Blaine says, “of the titles I’ve seen (and I’ve never seen Troy), I would say Popeye is the best. While I will always enjoy and defend it, I don’t know if it’s good enough to really be strong enough for the pick of the week. As you can see, this week is a pretty short list.”
Popeye is one of the first times I learned that movies can be very disappointing. I also have to disagree, Blaine — I don’t think it is at all like the 1930s cartoon. There’s not nearly enough blatant racism, for one. I have actually tried to watch it recently but I couldn’t get more than 20 minutes in.
Popeye is a favorite of mine. I even have the sound track in my regular playlist.
I’m a HUGE Robin Williams fan and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Popeye. Maybe I should just do it.
If you aren’t in it for anything else, the Robin Williams of it is worth it. Definitely do it, and I would like to hear your opinion of it after you do!
