  1. That’s good TV

This is very good TV. I am concerned though. It’s a good show, and it’s on Fox. I’ve heard it was “on the bubble” (neither renewed nor cancelled), and having the season finale next week, before May sweeps start up, is not a good sign. That’ll be episode 21, too, which is one episode less than most shows get per season. Fox has enough collective intelligence to put good shows like John Doe and Firefly on the air. Let’s hope they hang on to some of these and ditch the stuff like Mr. Personality.

Well, seeing as Fox has dropped Firefly, I would guess that they will keep John Doe around for a bit. Unfortunately, they’ll probably end up doing to it what they’ve done to countless other shows, like Futurerama and The X-Files – they’ll either keep it around far too long, or slowly destroy it by continually pre-empting it.

From what I’ve been reading here, I think I’m going to start watching John Doe when the reruns begin (or perhaps sooner… which episodes would be most highly recommended to watch?)

You might as well start with the next episode after next week’s finale. Hopefully, they’ll go in something resembling the original order so that people can jump in.

On the subject, I wonder if they’re planning on starting the series over and showing the first episodes for sweeps – a “Your second chance to see it from the beginning” kind of thing. I don’t know since I never make any attempt to see what’s coming up beyond the coming up next week teasers.

I’ve certainly been trying to spread the word in my circle. The show is generally smart, sometimes funny and the big story is compelling. I was glad to see the NSA guy back this week – the involvement of the “secret government,” handled properly, can really spice up a series like this.

I think they cut an episode because of shuttle explosion sensitivity, so that’d explain the missing episode. It may hit the air eventually. I’m not sure if it was the Mars environment episode, though; I heard it had something to do with an astronaut.

That was the episode that was delayed. (The intro started with a man in a space suit getting killed by panicked locals.)

  2. This week’s show
Am I the only one who was glad we didn’t see Frank and Avery this week?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t exactly hate those two characters, but it was nice to change things up a bit. It gets kind of old when episode after episode can be described as “a crime is committed, the police are fairly useless, and John saves the day with his freakish knowledge”.

And boy am I psyched about next week’s finale! This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite shows, despite the formulaic nature of many of the eps.

So, now we’ve got artificial intelligence, remote viewing, the Vatican, terrorists, encyclopedic knowledge, government agencies, and … what else? I have to say that I have no idea where they’re going with this show and I like it. Now if only Fox doesn’t screw it up like they do so often.

While not seeing Frank every once in a while might be acceptable, the Lt. Avery gap needs to be addressed ASAP. Then again, that could be just because I have a thing for Jayne Brook. I dunno. :)

        Ah, I’m thinking that’s gonna be…

        .

        .

        .

        .

        .

        … John Doe!

Think about it: who else would make John’s eyes bug out like in the preview, who else would be the most unexpected candidate?

I didn’t notice how tall the mysterious figure was or anything like that, so perhaps I’m wrong, but I think it would definitely be an interesting twist.
