M (Criterion Collection)
Amazon
  • DVD: US, CAN
Comments Blaine: Possibly my all time favorite movie. The first film noir, the first German talkie, the first starring role for Peter Lorre, the first to use camera techniques commonly credited to Citizen Kane, and more. This is the only movie I’ve ever seen where I find myself wondering not just if the police will arrive in time, but if I want the police to arrive in time.
Man With The Iron Fists 2
Amazon
  • DVD/Blu-Ray: US, CAN
  • Amazon Digital: US, CAN
Comments Alex: So, there’s a sequel to The Man With The Iron Fists – still starring The RZA, but with a different director, so the problems with shakey-cam with the original film’s fight scenes should be less of an issue here.
Maps to the Stars
Amazon
  • Blu-Ray/Digital: US, CAN
  • DVD: US, CAN
Metal Hurlant Chronicles: The Complete Series
Amazon
  • DVD: US, CAN
  • Blu-Ray: US, CAN
Comments Alex: SF Anthology Series based on the French SF/Fantasy anthology comic series. I’ve read some issues of Heavy Metal that featured stories from Hurlant, and when some of the stories in the magazine were good, they were fantastic. However, when they were bad, they were abysmal.
Noir: Anime Classics Edition

You’re Not You
Amazon
  • DVD: US, CAN

  1. I’ve heard a lot of good things about The Babadook. Like it was one of the first truly frightening movies to come out in a long time that didn’t rely on the overused cliche of jump scares.

Anyone catch it and want to weigh in?

    • I tried to catch it– its fleeting appearances in Canada were at film festivals and limited engagements somewhere else. Now that it can be had at home, I imagine I’ll see it– though perhaps a review would be more appropriate for next October.

      Anyone else out there?
