Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “although For the Love of Spock and Passengers are on my ‘must see’ lists, none of the titles that I have seen are particularly compelling choices.” Alex says, “While the cover of the Mondo edition of Ghost in the Shell is something I’d love to hang on my wall, I’m holding off on actually picking it up. Instead, I’m making Wolf Children my pick of the week.”

  1. I did watch and enjoy Passengers, though there was some over the top stuff.

I also now believe that Jennifer Lawrence is the latest iteration of Acting Robots, following in the footsteps of William Shatner and David Duchovny. They’ve worked out almost all the kinks!

  2. Zeta Project was fun while it lasted. If you liked the world of Batman Beyond, check it out.Twin Peaks is one of those brilliant-before-its-time shows. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.

I will definitely check out For the Love of Spock. Most likely with a wad of tissues in hand.

And lastly, I’m kind of curious to rewatch Red Dawn. At the very least, to bask in the irony of the same Ruskie-fearing Reaganites that made this film a hit are now the ones so eager to look the other way when it comes to Russia.

  3. I loved the initial episodes of Twin Peaks (made infinitely more disturbing by a local murder, reminiscent of Laura Palmer’s, which happened between the airings of the first two eps). The Lynch-directed episodes were brilliant and, as you say, far ahead of the times for television. I checked out by the end of season one. By then, as I saw it, they’d lost control of the narrative.
