DC Television Week 10 Discussion

This week we see the return of our DC Arrowverse, mostly.  Lucifer is still hiding back in December, Supergirl comments on just how many of these shows we have now, The Flash gives us a tiny episode for much cheaper just to see if we like it, Black Lightning’s first appearance deals with showing up again, The Legends of Tomorrow are in the future, and Arrow is bisected.

(Synopsis cut and pasted from Trakt.com.)

Lucifer – S03E10 – The Sin Bin – Weren’t you here a month ago?

Supergirl – S03E10 – Legion of Super-Heroes – Struggling to heal from her injuries inflicted by Reign, Supergirl remains in a dreamlike state, unable to be reached. Mon-El recruits one of the Legion members, Brainiac-5, to try to bring her back. Meanwhile, Reign continues her rampage on the city so the DEO teams up with the Legion of Super-Heroes to try to stop her.

The Flash – S04E10 – The Trial of the Flash – As Barry’s trial for the murder of Clifford DeVoe begins, Iris and Joe must decide how far they are willing to go to keep Barry out of prison.

Black Lightning – S01E01 – The Resurrection – Jefferson Pierce is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of Anissa and Jennifer, and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe-haven for young people in a neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero in his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning, but he left the Superhero days behind. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – S03E10 – Daddy Darhkest – This is due next month, February 12th.

Arrow – S06E10 – Divided – Despite losing half his team, Oliver remains confident that he, Felicity and Diggle can stop Cayden James and Black Siren. However, when he discovers one of Cayden’s secrets, he decides to team up with an unlikely ally. Meanwhile, Dinah spends time with Vince.

  1. I liked what this week’s Flash sets up more than I liked the episode, but at least they tried to address the usual TV Trial Tropes.

    I didn’t see Supergirl. How’d Brainiac 5 play?

      • I’ll catch up for next week. I rather enjoyed the Legion when I was a kid.

Oh, also: Barry really received a bad defense, especially given how impressive his lawyer is supposed to be. But again, I think this episode is about setting something up that will be more interesting. They could’ve done a better job setting it up, however.

  2. Arrow didn’t air here yet… I think… did I miss something?

Supergirl was ok, except the the whole “Ok, Reign is wounded and weakened! Maybe we should, you know, chase her down? Anyone? No?” Also MonEl can’t punch through ICE?

Flash went between boring me and annoying me, to be honest. I feel like I’d have been a better lawyer than what’s her name…

    • Yeah, I’m thinking that, as Barry’s lawyer, I would have jumped on the judge’s comment that Barry needed to be present for the sentencing. There was no verdict at that point.

(As one of the more obvious problems)

As for radiation, nearly all science gets handwaved in the DCU. But more day-to-day things? They should be handled a little better.

  3. Black Lightning was kind of intense. I’m not sure I am the target audience, but it was pretty good . Seemed like they were going for a Luke Cage/Netflix vibe.
