  1. Modern CGI will fix this
Just add Jabba and Jar Jar in there, that’ll make it perfectly allright. Don’t these people know anything?

  2. Abandon hope?
Hey, I think the fact that there’ll never be a DVD release of the Star Wars Christmas Special should give us hope. Not only is it extremely horrible, but it’s comforting to know there might be a line even Lucas won’t cross for money!

Actually, I’d like more people to know what’s the truth concerning his claims of artistic integrity.

That is why I’m the proud owner of a “french kiss Jar Jar Binks” toy, consisting of a Jar Jar head with a candy tongue, you press on the back and he opens wide, extending his tongue. You are meant to apply your mouth to his and proceed to suck and lick Jar Jar’s tongue.
      Stuff of nightmares…

Ah, but here’s the thing, he actually regrets the christmas special, admits it was a bad idea and doesn’t think anyone should have to suffer through watching it! I doubt he’d ever say that about the prequels… or your… disturbing toy…

Man, I’ve read about some hideous things in my life, but that is going to give me nightmares…

          Meesa gonna kissa! *shudder*

I got it as a gift from a girl I knew that worked at a dollar store that were still selling them (for cheap) long after the hype had died down. I mentioned how I thought it was the most disturbing and absurd thing I’d ever seen (I had first encountered them at the checkout lane at ToysRus), and she bought me one.

The disturbing part is that she worked at a store in the gay part of town (it’s like a really well decorated ghetto), and they were a much bigger seller there and then than at toy stores during the height of the hype.

Here’s a pic, from this page on toys that shouldn’t be.
Notice the realistic bumps… and colour…

                Oh good god.

Is it sad that I kinda want one for sheer horriffic value?…

Well, I’d be kind of a huge hypocrite if I said yes : )

Btw, based on the smell, the tongue is strawberry-flavoured, IIRC…

  3. Not a Problem
Everyone I know who is masochistic enough to want a copy on DVD already
picked theirs up at a sci-fi convention. It’s also easily downloadable via P2P.

So I don’t think it’s cause for alarm.

  4. Never Seen It
No really, I’ve never seen it, as far as I know. I’ve seen reviews, and I understand there is an extended portion of the film all in Wookish(?). But I’ve never seen it. And now, I have a morbid fascination with it and want to see it.

Since I saw the original release of A New Hope in theaters when I was 5, presumably I was around for the special when it was broadcast. Maybe, like Bart, I’ve suppressed it and replaced it with a memory of Disneyland or something.
