Weekly DVD Picks – Tuesday, March 15, 2005

The DVD releases are starting to get quite good,
again. The next few weeks will be very nice.

First, the genre releases:

Now, the non-genre releases:

Finally, the pick of the week. Waydowntown
is a
highly unusual Canadian comedy. This story, set and
filmed in
downtown Calgary, is about four office workers who
have a bizarre bet
going. The cast includes Fab Fillippo, whom you might
recognize as
Scott Hope from the third season of Buffy the
Vampire Slayer
as well as Canadian comedic film mainstay Don
McKellar. I don’t want
to give away too much of the plot, but I will say that
the characters
here make the characters in Office Space look
normal. This
is actually the second DVD release of this title. The
first release
may only have been available in Canada. It was also a
pan and scan
edition, which makes this a welcome upgrade for those
of us who own
the previous edition.

  1. Incredibles!
I’m getting really annoyed at the ads that try to show me the footage from the extras! Stupid spoilerish trailers, I hates them!

    Waiting is.

  2. Red Dwarf
The Dwarf is the only reason I still have a VCR. Once I get all those series on DVD, bamf goes the VCR.

While we’re on the subject, where’s the movie guys?! I’ve been waiting for the Red Dwarf Posse on the big screen for what seems like several ice ages now.

The old Kochanski was better. Discuss.

Oh, and I just got back from Scotland with my Corgi Red Dwarf, Starbug, Rimmer and Lister set. Woo.

  3. Gasp!
You haven’t seen The Incredibles yet?!?!?! Shame on you!!!! 300 lashes with a wet noodle. ;-)

  4. La Femme Nikita – The Complete Second Season
    Yay! At last!

This was announced as available a number of months ago, but it was a false alarm.

This was one of my favorite series. Of course I have seacon 1, and I now have pre-ordered season 2 via Amazon.

An interesting note: One of the plot sequences had to do with Nikita finding out that Section One supported Saddam Hussein – the reason was if he were removed, there would be chaos in the region. Stay tuned …
