pdavis
writes, Sci fi has released their list of new
series. No original ideas here. Doesn’t one of their
commercials say that imagination is scifi.
The same goes with their movies as well. It looks
like we get another squid movie – hurray.
Sci fi is continuing their tradition of mediocrity.
Farscape being the only exception I can think of. I
like original programming, but unfortunately that is
not what sci fi is giving us.
Oh my….
The _only_ show that looks interesting out of the bunch is the mockumentary. Unfortunately, Sci-Fi thinks that Horror = Sci-Fi, hence all the bad Mansquito movies (which, according to Wired, do amazingly well and cost next to nothing). I can’t be the only one who likes Comedy in their Sci-Fi – my favorite shows of theirs are (in order):
Two of those were a nice mix of comedy and science fiction.
Re: Oh my….
Heroes Anonymous looks like an attempt to cash in on The Incredibles, but has potential if done well. But then, this *is* the sci-fi channel…
Time Tunnel has some really big shoes to fill — the original was very good.
Those Who Walk in Darkness looks like X-Men
I guess there really is nothing new under the sun…
Re: Oh my….
Invisible Man was a great take on the old idea, and wasn’t complete crap. I loved it. I was shocked when they canned it after only one season.
BSG
You really don’t see Battlestar Galactica as exceptional? Even if
you
don’t, you can be sure that there are a lot of us who see it as being at least as
good as Farscape.
I prefer to think of Sci-Fi as being the embodiment of Sturgeon’s Law: they
have to produce the 95% that’s crap in order to produce the excellent 5% that
includes
Farscape and Battlestar Galactica.
Re: BSG
But that implys that the crap makes money, while BSG and Farscape do not. I do not think that’s the case. I think the premise of what you say is wrong.
Re: BSG
What? It implies nothing of the sort, and I don’t believe that’s the case either.
I can only conclude that you’re ignorant of Sturgeon’s Law, and
too lazy to Google for it. It says nothing about money, and simply says, “90%
of everything is crud.” It comes from Sturgeon saying, “Of course 90% of
science fiction is crud, 90% of everything is crud.”
Re: BSG
Battlestar is awesome it is just not done by Sci-Fi. It is original, but NBC is the brain behind it, hence a release overseas first. If Sci Fi would have done it, it would have been crap.
