Weekly New Releases – February 4, 2020

I want to extend a huge “thank you” to Alex. Normally we share the duties of putting this column together, but my life has been insane in January, and Alex stepped up and has been doing the entire thing for the past several weeks.

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “For my pick, I’m going with Magnificent Kotobuki. It’s an anime series which has some tremendous animation, particularly in the aerial dogfights, and some exquisite sound design. It is an anime series to be watched with either some really excellent speakers or fantastic headphones.”

    • I have some strange memory of having reviewed it, but apparently, I didn’t. I think I thought about it, and then decided I’d put it aside for some future Halloween. I’ve seen it, in any case. It’s okay, and it brings a series I recall from my university days to a conclusion.

No, really. Three of us shared a house the year that Thirteen Ghosts aired (including this guy). We would get up Saturday around 11 am and Thirteen Ghosts is what we’d focus on while we tried to figure out what we had to do that weekend.

      • I thought about reviewing Return to Zombie Island after watching it last year, but didn’t get around to it. Maybe next Halloween can be all Scooby-Doo movies? At any rate, Return was fun as all get out. Totally pokes fun at itself and the series.
