Possible Patreon – Input Requested

I’ve been considering launching a Patreon for the podcasts I produce through Bureau 42, and would like to know if anyone would be interested in supporting them, and if so, what rewards would be most appealing to you.

The podcasts involved are the following:

  • 99 Years, 100 Films
  • Bedtime in the Public Domain
  • Old Time Radio at Bureau 42
  • The X-Files Retrospective Podcast

The rewards I’ve already been considering are the following:

  • “Thank you” audibly on the podcasts
  • “Thank you” on a dedicated page at Bureau 42
  • Early access to podcasts
  • Access to my voice as navigation in the Waze app
  • (One time only) – pick one book for Blaine to read on “Bedtime in the Public Domain”
  • (One time only) – read one book for “Bedtime in the Public Domain”
  • (One time only) Join Blaine to discuss one specific episode, comic, movie, or novel for the X-Files podcast
  • (One time only) – pick one old time radio show (in the public domain) to be added to the rotation to the Old Time Radio show
  • (One time only) – join Trey and Blaine to discuss one movie of your choice in a bonus episode, whether or not it won the Best Picture Oscar (subject to Trey and Blaine having access to the title)

How do these ideas look to you? What, if anything, would you like to see added to the list?

  1. JD DeLuzio says:

    A 2021 W. Blaine Dowler calendar?

Actually, joining the discussion might be interesting.

  2. I’m in!

It depends on how much things cost, but the ones I would be most interested in trying to get would be:

    • “Thank you” audibly on the podcasts
    • Access to my voice as navigation in the Waze app (I don’t use Waze, but a voice font is awesome.)
    • (One time only) – pick one book for Blaine to read on “Bedtime in the Public Domain”
    • (One time only) Join Blaine to discuss one specific episode, comic, movie, or novel for the X-Files podcast (I never watched the X-Files, but discussing comics is kinda my jam.)
    • (One time only) – join Trey and Blaine to discuss one movie of your choice in a bonus episode, whether or not it won the Best Picture Oscar (subject to Trey and Blaine having access to the title)
  3. The current plan, with prices, is as follows:
    – $1: verbal and written thank yous.
    – $2: add above plus early access to ad free content
    – $3: add above plus read-only access to my planning spreadsheets
    – $5: add above plus Wave navigation voice
    – $8: add above plus access to exclusive content, including some private recordings and random podcast thoughts that don’t fit other programs

All tiers below include the above plus one specific reward, as listed:

    – $10: access to monthly “ask me anything” group video chats. Only 5 available.
    – $12: pick a book to be included in “Bedtime in the Public Domain,” subject to approval. Only 1 available. One book per year.
    – $15: Join a podcast: be a guest on a podcast conversation about a topic of your choice. Limit 4. Podcasts are every 6 months. The podcast release will be Patreon-exclusive.
    – $15: Movie Talk with Trey and Blaine: once a year, join Trey and Blaine to discuss any movie that all three of us have access to. The podcast release will be Patreon-exclusive.
    – $20: Read a Book: you are the one who reads a “Bedtime in the Public Domain” title. Only 1 available.
    – $25: Pick an Old Time Radio show for inclusion in that podcast. Only 1 available.

I picked some of these tiers based on the “expert advice” from Patreon, ignoring their “start at the $3 level” advice. I’m still not sure I want to go as high as $25 per month, so I may lower the gaps between tiers. I do like having exclusivity and limited patreons at the upper tiers, though, especially given the rewards. Any feedback on rewards and pricing is welcome and encouraged.
