Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 December 20

Penultimate Update for the year!

With the big holiday happening this week, you’d expect there would be less shows to watch, but the sparse releases to because of the pandemic means there are actually more shows to watch thanks to a Holiday Special from two non-genre shows, Call the Midwife and Mrs. Brown’s Boys.  The one you probably are waiting on will be here next week, but The Fifth Doctor will be visiting the Midwives for their holiday special if you can’t wait.  As for our normal shows, Lyra and Will have their season finale on His Dark Materials as the complete cast converges at Cittàgazze.  On Pennyworth, our butler’s trip to America finds a magical delay.  The Expanse doesn’t tell us what’s happening, and neither does Star Trek, but we know Mrs. Brown’s Boys are going to be discussing the 2020 lockdown.

From everyone at the Bureau, we want to wish everyone a happy Life Day and every other holiday you celebrate!

[All synopses (and titles) from Trakt.tv below the cut, except when there really aren’t any. (If a show’s synopsis is a spoiler to you, do not click Continue reading →)]

His Dark Materials – S02E07 – Æsahættr – Season Finale – As all paths converge on Cittàgazze, Lee is determined to fulfil his quest, whatever the cost. Mrs Coulter’s question is answered, and Will takes on his father’s mantle.

Pennyworth – S02E01 – The Burning Bridge – Alfred’s plans for his departure to America are put on hold when someone close to him is put in danger. Thomas enlists the help of an old foe, Aleister Crowley.

The Expanse – S05E04 – Guagamela – [No Description Given]

Star Trek: Discovery – S03E11 – The Citadel – Anti-Penultimate Episode – [No Description Given]

Call the Midwife – S00E10 – Christmas Special 2020 – Having dealt with some extremely naughty sheep last year in the Outer Hebrides, this year the gang are in Poplar. Everyone is hoping for a nice uneventful Christmas, but of course that doesn’t happen! Sister Monica Joan is rushed to hospital, while Trixie is less than impressed to receive a subscription to a Marriage Bureau as a Christmas present. Meanwhile, the circus is in town as ex Time Lord Peter Davison plays Mr Percival the Ringmaster.

Mrs Brown’s Boys – S00E21 – Mammy of the People – It’s Christmas in Finglas, and Mrs Brown is coping with life after lockdown. As she gets news of a very special competition, Grandad, Winnie and Father Damien come to her for help.

  1. When telling my wife about the two specials, I typed X-Men instead of X-Mas. Now I want to see Professor X visit the convent in Call the Midwife and Logan and Cyclops stay with Mrs. Brown.

Also coming out this week: Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian — 2×01 — Making of Season Two

Plus there are the two big movies that are coming out in theaters and also available for streaming on Christmas: Soul and WW84

Sadly, I don’t think Canada gets streaming access to WW1984 until it has completed its initial theatrical run– and another local lockdown is not out of the question. Local to me, we’re back in the rating just below lockdown as of tomorrow.
