Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2022 May 22

Riverdale continues to be as unlike the classic Archie comics as possible.  Better Call Saul shows Jimmy and Kim learning what happens with plans.  The Flash features Old Man Barry.  The Enterprise faces a malevolent force in Strange New Worlds, (I would say ‘again’, but this is a prequel.)  Mystery Science Theatre 3000 watches a bad sequel.  The Blacklist ends its season as they attempt to apprehend The Plague. If this isn’t the sort of television you are a looking for, you are probably on the wrong site, but there are also some Stranger Things to take in.

[All synopses (and titles) from Trakt.tv below the cut, except when there really aren’t any. (If a show’s synopsis is a spoiler to you, do not click Continue reading →)]

Riverdale – S06E15 – Chapter One Hundred and Ten: Things That Go Bump in the Night – After failing to get Pop’s declared a historical landmark, Tabitha enlists Archie’s help saving the diner from Percival. Betty opens up to Agent Drake about her ability to see people’s evil auras. Meanwhile, after Reggie and the shareholders declare war on Veronica, she turns to Jughead for help maintaining control of the Babylonium. Finally, Cheryl reconnects with her childhood crush Heather, and Toni and Fangs continue their fight for custody of Baby Anthony.

Better Call Saul – S06E07 – Plan and Execution – Jimmy and Kim deal with a last-minute snag in their plan.

The Flash – S08E16 – The Curious Case of Bartholomew Allen – The Flash gets blasted with a shockwave forcing his body to age prematurely.

Young Justice: Phantoms – S04E24 – Episode 24 – [No Description Given]

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – S01E04 – Memento Mori – Pike must find unconventional Starfleet methods to deal with a malevolent force that attacks the Enterprise.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – S01E01 – Episode 1 – [Series Premier – No Description Given]

Mystery Science Theater 3000 – S13E04 – Munchie – In this in-name-only sequel to Munchies (1987), a new kid in town, Gage Dobson, can’t find his place in the new environment despite having such a cool name.

Stranger Things – S04 – It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.

The Blacklist – S09E22 – Marvin Gerard: Conclusion (2) – [Season Finale] Red and Cooper square off with conflicting endgames for their mutual traitor. A major secret about the Task Force falls into the wrong hands.

1There really isn’t any reason to think that Fisher Stevens isn’t playing the same character, and we just need a prequel series where he goes to jail at the end of the film and gets into accounting more, and meets a younger Reddington, who gives Eugene a new identity as Marvin.

*wiggles fingers* These are not the only shows you are looking for… :)

Night Sky dropped in May. It’s at least a novel SF series: geriatric portal fiction.

We’re working our way through Season One. Season Two is an unknown: they have neither cancelled nor renewed the show. What little we’ve seen so far really makes it look like it should be a one-off, but American TV abhors one-offs.
