As Miss Beelzebub Likes It

Comments Anime series about an ex-angel (the titular Miss Beelzebub) who ends up in charge of Pandamonium after Satan bails on the job, forcing her to try to run things with her assistant, Mullin, while also covering up that Miss Beelzebub is kind of an airhead.
Astro Boy

Comments Blaine: I had this on DVD, but it was the US release, so it didn’t hit the nostalgia buttons I wanted. Here in Canada, we had completely different voice acting. Because children’s television also had to be longer in broadcast, despite removal of any scene involving butt cannons, each episode ended with a game: Astro would summarize the episode for Geronimo, but make mistakes on purpose. Viewers were supposed to spot the error and compare notes on the playground at school the next day. The actual number of errors ranged from 0 to 6, but it’s the part I miss the most, and it doesn’t seem to be available on home video.
Alex: This is the series Noboru Ishiguro did before moving on to direct Super Dimension Fortress Macross – before following that up with Orguss, Megazone 23 Pts. 1 & 2 and the original Legend of the Galactic Heroes series.

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “On the anime side of things, while there are a bunch of great picks this month, I’m going with Astro Boy for now (with Lupin III being a close second), as those are the two I’ve seen – though Super Cub, Kageki Shojo, and Kemono Jihen are on my watch list. On the 4K front, I’m going with A Fistful of Dollars (though, admittedly, I have not watched Double Indemnity yet).” Blaine says, “Having seen both, I’ll take Double Indemnity over A Fistful of Dollars for my top pick of the week, especially since it’s been given the Criterion Collection treatment.”
