Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “If you have a way to play UHD disks, get Mask of the Phantasm. Otherwise, of the Arrow horror movies this month (and there are a lot of classics), I’m going with Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (with Count Yorga coming a close second).” Blaine says, “I’m going with Barbie. Reports that it is anti-men are false; it’s anti-sexism, and comes down in opposition of both patriarchy and matriarchy. I suggest that the men who feel personally attacked by the film take the time to do some soul-searching and figure out why that is.”

  1. Blaine says, “I’m going with Barbie. Reports that it is anti-men are false; it’s anti-sexism, and comes down in opposition of both patriarchy and matriarchy. I suggest that the men who feel personally attacked by the film take the time to do some soul-searching and figure out why that is.”

    I enjoyed this review.

  2. These sound like solid recommendations. The 2009 remake of Last House on the Left (which itself was actually a re-imagining of yet another film) doesn’t have a lot to recommend it, other than a higher budget and a higher tolerance for clichés.

Riki Lindhome has mocked her reputation for roles requiring brief gratuitous nudity, but the scene in this film plays like unintended parody.

  3. My wife and I discovered Abbott Elementary on Hulu. If you’d like an upbeat sitcom, check it out. It’s not as good as The Good Place or Ted Lasso, but it’s funny and gives you good vibes.
