Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “My anime pick for this week is A Place Further Than The Universe. It’s one of the best anime series (and possibly TV series in general) of the past decade, and it was previously only available for streaming on Crunchyroll. Otherwise, my UHD pick is Pale Rider, and my regular DVD pick is the V-Cinema boxed set from Arrow.” Blaine says, “of the titles I’ve seen, Full Metal Jacket is the front runner. Of the rest, Anora is the most appealing, having just won the Best Picture award. Those who have been reading this column for a while know what it means for a first release of a Star Trek product not to make my list.”

    • They did. When it was first announced, it was announced as a series, and it only became a movie when Yeoh won the Oscar and her price went up. This did not feel like a movie to me. It felt like an early draft of the two hour pilot of a TV series, which needs a different narrative structure. One more pass on the script to change that job could have made a huge difference. By not taking it, the finished product felt like a substandard rush job to me.

  1. Death of a Unicorn looks right up my alley. I love horror-comedy.

Stripes doesn’t get talked about nearly enough.

Section 31. Oh…man. What a waste of Yeoh. Shatner should be thanking them. Star Trek V is no longer the worst Trek film.
