Here’s the latest round of DVD picks. Later today, there will be another Civil War review.
First, the genre releases:
- Batman Beyond: Season Three: The last season of this series includes the Justice League crossover.
- Shonen Jump Black Cat Vol. 3
- Eragon: This was far better received than the last “swords and sorcery” flick starring Jeremy Irons.
- Eureka Seven, Vol. 6
- Everyone’s Hero: A project begun by Christopher Reeve.
- First Born
- IGPX – Complete Season Two
- Joan of Arcadia – Season Two
- Justice League Unlimited – Season Two: Issues with my DVR prevented me from recording most of this season, but I really enjoyed what I did see. “Flash and Substance” was particularly great, including what may have been the best scene in the season. (“Are you off your meds again?”)
- Kong – Animated Series Gift Set
- Masters of Horror – Pro-Life
- The Milton The Monster Show – The Complete Series
- Re-Animator: Jeffrey Coombs starring in a horror flick.
- Return of the Living Dead 5: Rave to the Grave
- Scrapped Princess – Anime Legends Complete Collection
- Stan Lee Presents – The Condor
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Addiction
- Are We There Yet?
- Blood Diamond
- Cheers Season Eight: Few shows hit their prime this late in the run, but Cheers may have been one of them.
- Christy – The Complete Series
- Come Early Morning
- Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner
- Criminal Minds – The First Season: I know I’ve seen this on shelves before, so it’s likely a rerelease, but I’m listing it anyway just in case it’s one of those rare cases where the release dates in Canada and the U.S.A. don’t match.
- Deadliest Catch – Season One
- JAG – The Complete Third Season
- John Ratzenberger’s Made in America: The only user review on Amazon gives it five stars, but it also says Ratzenberger played “Norm” on Cheers, so it’s of questionable reliability.
- Maude – The Complete First Season: I know what Wade Wilson will be doing this Tuesday.
- McHale’s Navy – Season One
- Miami Vice – Season Three
- Miami Vice – Season Four
- Michael Shayne, Private Detective Collection Vol. 1: Includes “Michael Shayne, Private Detective,” “Sleepers West,” “Blue, White and Perfect,” and “The Man Who Wouldn’t Die.”
- Naked City – Criterion Collection: A well known crime drama.
- Newsradio – Season Five: The show tried to continue without Phil Hartman, but it just wasn’t the same.
- Rocky Balboa: Also available in Blu-Ray format.
- Run’s House – Complete Seasons One and Two
- Sleeper Cell – American Terror – Complete Second Season
- W.C. Fields Comedy Collection, Vol. 2: Includes “The Man on the Flying Trapeze,” “Never Give a Sucker an Even Break,” “You’re Telling Me!”, “The Old Fashioned Way,” and “Poppy.”
- The Wild Wild West – Complete Second Season
Finally, the pick of the week. I haven’t seen many of these. Of those few I’ve seen, “Justice League Unlimited” is the best, but I’m very interested in seeing “Naked City” before making my final choice.
Pick
My pick is season 5 of Newsradio. Nowhere near as good as the first 4 seasons, but I’m getting it anyway. In fact, I preordered it a few weeks ago.
I think the Shatner roast should be in Genre, or at least we should have anew ‘crap’ section (;
Re: Pick
You know, I could probably fill a "crap" section very, very easily. I sifted through almost 350 releases to come up with this list.
Re: Pick
Could you remind me where you get the full list? I forgot where it was and I can’t find it now ):
Re: Pick
Amazon.com -> DVD section -> New and Future releases -> relevant week
Re: Pick
I’ll try and remember it this time, thanks (:
Re: Pick
You know, I felt that the Lovitz season of Newsradio was annoying when it was first-run, and in fact I stopped watching the show. But, when I started watching the show in rerun I came around very fast. I now refer to it as the non-Hartman season and like it quite a lot. It didn’t deserve to be abandoned so quickly by the fan base. Heck, just the Johnny Johnson (Patrick Warburton for the uninitiated) episodes should be enough to make Newsradio fans happy…and the last episode was a great way to end the show.
Joan of Arcadia
Fun show. It’s unfortunate they ended the series (after season #2) on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Re: Joan of Arcadia
Agreed, I enjoyed that show too. And they were finally going to take it in a somewhat interesting direction – adding an adversary, which they didn’t really have before. Too bad it died.
Tubbs and Crockett FTW.
*ahem*
Sweet! Miami Vice Season 3 and 4! (I know this sounds really stupid, but I wasn’t born when the show first came on the air, and I recently discovered the show, and it was much better than I originally thought it would be – you just have to look past the polyester and pastels).
But, anyway, are there any plans to review "Stan Lee Presents – The Condor"?
