It’s October, so we have a few classics, particularly for fans of the horror genre.
First, the DVD releases:
- 28 Weeks Later
- 28 Day Later / 28 Weeks Later
- Alfred Hitchcock Presents – Season Three: As enjoyable as these are, if they don’t start releasing more than a season a year, they won’t even have them all on the market until long after the DVD format is dead.
- American Silent Horror Collection: Includes “The Man Who Laughs,” “The Penalty,” “The Cat and the Canary,” the 1921 John Barrymore Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (though in a far superior DVD release than the one reviewed there) and “Kingdom of Shadows.” This is a Kino Video release, so the copyright expired films don’t come cheap as they’ve been restored, and not just dumped to DVD from some old VHS copy like other companies do.
- Ben 10: The Complete Season 2
- Black Sheep
- Conversations With Other Women
- Creature Comforts America – The Complete Season One
- Crooks Anonymous
- CSI: NY – The Third Season
- Degrassi High – The Complete Collection: Got a thing for teenage Canadian melodrama?
- Evan Almighty
- Everybody Hates Chris – The Second Season
- Family Ties – The Second Season
- The Film Crew – The Giant of Marathon: The new home of the MST3K crew.
- Fox Horror Classics Collection: Includes “The Lodger,” “Hangover Square” and “The Undying Monster.”

- Man Push Cart
- Meerkat Manor – Season One

- Yu Yu Hakusho: Seven Sins eps. 85-98

Here are the HD DVD releases:
Finally, the pick of the week. I’m going with the third Alfred Hitchcock Presents set. The first two were well produced (especially given the age and technology of the original sound recordings), and Hitchcock’s style and twisted sense of humour pervades the entire series.
Black Sheep!
Awesome. I stumbled on the trailer awhile back and my coworkers and I have been dying to see this!
