There are a couple of gems out this week. There must be; a new edition of “Nightmare Before Christmas” is out and it’s not the Pick of the Week!
First, the DVD releases:
- Alfresco
- Amadeus
- Brotherhood of the Wolf Director’s Cut
- Crusade: A March Through Time: Not to be confused with the Babylon 5 spinoff
- Death Note, Vol. 6
- Death Note Vol. 6 With Collector’s Figurine
- Delicatessen (Special Edition)
- Devil Hunter Yohko, Volume 2: Complete Collection
- Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Collection: Includes “Wyrd Sisters” and “Soul Music.”
- The Duchess of Duke Street: The Complete Collection
- Entourage: The Complete Fourth Season
- Errol Flynn Westerns Collection: Includes “Montana,” “Rocky Mountain,” “San Antonio” and “Virginia City.”
- Everybody Hates Chris: The Third Season
- Heroes Season Two
- Color Honeymooners Collection, Vol. 4
- Horror Film Classics 2009 Collection with 4 DVD’s: Here’s an interesting item. Each month of the calendar features a classic horror film, and it comes with 4 DVDs including those same films. Of course, they may be using a somewhat liberal definition of “classic.” The movies are “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die,” “Night of the Living Dead,” “Teenage Zombies,” “Dementia 13,” “House on Haunted Hill,” “The Terror,” “The Devil Bat,” “Nosferatu,” “The Phantom Of The Opera,” “Frankenstein’s Daughter,” “Revolt of the Zombies” and “White Zombie.” I’d certainly call “Nosferatu,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “Night of the Living Dead” classics, but the others are highly debatable.
- The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning
- Lone Wolf and Cub Vol. 3
- The Takashi Miike Omnibus: This 8 disk set is NOT family friendly.
- My Sassy Girl
- NCIS: The Fifth Season
- The Nightmare Before Christmas (2-Disc Collector’s Edition with Digital Copy)
- One Tree Hill – The Complete Fifth Season
- Phantasm IV: Oblivion
- Postal
- Postal (Unrated Edition)
- Purple Violets
- Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom – Criterion Collection
- The Shield – The Complete Sixth Season
- The Three Stooges Collection, Vol. 3 1940-1942
- To Heart Collection
- UFO Hunters – Season One: I haven’t seen it, but a number of our readers have.
- The Untouchables, Season Two, Volume Two
- Vampire Diary
- Virgin Territory
- The Warner Home Video Western Classics Collection: Includes “Escape From Fort Bravo,” “Many Rivers to Cross,” “Cimarron (1960),” “The Law and Jake Wade,” “Saddle The Wind” and “The Stalking Moon.”
- What Happens In Vegas
- What Happens In Vegas (Extended Jackpot Edition With Digital Copy)
Now, the Blu-Ray releases:
- Action Starter Pack: Includes “End of Days,” “Miami Vice,” and “U-571,” all of which are also individual available this week.
- Adventures of Robin Hood
- Dude, Where’s My Car?
- Afro Samurai: Season One (Director’s Cut)
- End of Days
- Heroes: Season One: Previously available on DVD and HD DVD only.
- Heroes: Season Two
- Miami Vice (Unrated Director’s Cut)
- The Nightmare Before Christmas: Includes Digital Copy
- Pale Rider
- Postal
- The Secret: The David Duchovny movie, not the self-help video.
- U-571
- What Happens In Vegas
Finally, the pick of the week. I’d go with Heroes: Season Two in the highest definition you can handle. It’s not as strong as the first season, but it’s still great.
Postal Came Last Year?
I didn’t realize it was out yet.
Maybe it was selective amnesia.
