Alex: Slapstick comedy series with massive amounts of blood and graphic violence (the victim keeps getting resurrected).
Dragon Ball Z Kai – Season 1, Part 1 | DVD | Blu-Ray |
Alex: This is, essentially, a remake of Dragonball Z, with the animation re-done, and most of the filler removed.
Eyeshield 21: Collection 1 | DVD
Alex: Shonen anime series about a Japanese High School’s Football (as in American Football) team.
Queen’s Blade – Wandering Warrior | DVD
Alex: This is, essentially, bizarre soft-core porn, but without sex, from the creator of La Blu Girl. I normally don’t make judgment calls about what age group should be watching what series, but I’m calling it here – not for children under the age of 18. As an example (spoiler-guarded due to being potentially NSFW) One of the major villians is a woman who shoots acid from her nipples as an attack.. I normally wouldn’t list this, but I want to make sure that people are aware what this is.
xxxHolic: The Complete First Season | Complete First Season
Alex: Anime series based on the CLAMP manga I’ve been slowly working my way through (with more reviews forthcoming).

Invictus | DVD | Blu-Ray |
WWE Presents the Best Pay Per View Matches of the year, 2009-2010 | DVD
Alex: It is what it says on the tin, WWE’s best matches from their Pay Per Views of the year, so you don’t have to go through all the Pay Per Views of the year to get the best individual matches. I presume the best matches from TV broadcasts will probably be on the “Best of Raw” and “Best of Smackdown” DVDs which I presume we’ll get later. |
Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “honestly, that economical Film Noir set is the most attractive to me. With D.O.A. and Fritz Lang’s Scarlet Street, it’s hard to go wrong as long as the disc is well authored.” Alex says, “while I will be putting the Best Matches of the Year DVD on my Netflix queue, I can’t pick it because I haven’t seen all those matches yet. However, I have seen the Mobile Suit Gundam film trilogy before, and I’d say it’s a very good intro to the Gundam franchise, particularly the “Universal Century” universe.
As an aside, if anyone’s interested, I’d be willing to do a brief run down of the Gundam franchise for newcomers to anime.”
