Andromeda Discussion – “For Whom The Bell Tolls”

With Angel and Charmed pre-empted for The Wizard of Oz, we find ourselves left with but one discussion forum this Sunday. Try not to let the disappointment of lacking a new Angel episode cause you to be unneccessarily harsh to Kevin Sorbo’s epic… something.

    Nice containment procedures.

Rommy’s internal sensors can’t locate one trapped crewman because the computer is told the section isn’t there?

    Give me a break.

      Nice containment procedures.

Rommy’s internal sensors can’t locate one trapped crewman because the computer is told the section isn’t there?

I found it almost as interesting that Rommy could detect energy from that location, even though she could not detect a human.

      The obvious questions include

      1. what other features does Andromeda have that she has been programed to forget about?
      2. Why is it that no-one has run a program to check the dimensions of all the cabins, and compare them against what is recorded, and find oddities like this?
      3. Three times now there have been people walking through walls, and with this fourth case we have a real ghost?
      4. Does the fact that the dead guy’s program could create a hollogram that neither instance of Rommy could see suggest that somewhere down the line we could see some enemy try the same trick?

Then again, someone may be able to address all of these issues.

Very good point… for a few seconds we saw ‘Rommie-vision’ and the other dude / hologram wasnt showing up. However when Rommie was working at the console and the guy was behind her, she looked like she could sense something, but didnt know what it was.

What this says to me is not that the dude could hide himself but that Andromeda / Rommie was somehow programmed to deliberately avoid seeing anything, and/or reconstruct what was on the other side of the person so as to make it appear they’re not there. Which means either Andromeda’s AI (and thus her avatar Rommie) has a deliberate piece of programming to avoid seeing such things, or it was written/injected by that dude or his avatar….

or maybe I’m thinking too hard.

Heh. You’re assuming that the writers care about maintaining,
well, any level of continuity or logic at this point. I’m pretty well
        convinced they don’t.

Here’s an idea, next time they know they have a contaminated ship
on board — eject it and tow it. It wouldn’t have changed
the larger plot since the maggots were already on board via
Seamus’ boots and would have made it feel like they took the
        threat seriously.

The crew didn’t really seem to feel any
urgency about the maggots – the writers couldn’t decide whether
they were a true threat, or comic relief!

I’m afraid that Andromeda has truly jumped the shark. This seems
inevitable for Roddenbery-sired series in their third season…

Oh well. At least I don’t need to buy any more of the DVDs now.

Ah the death knell rings for this attempt at a good script. Others have mentioned the blarring “what tha’s” of this sad tale, so I won’t resay what is already said.
