    just re-watched LOTR:FOTR (rented the 4DVD set)
and let me tell you I am PSYCHED about TTT. first, the extended version put in 90% of the things I wanted in (that they had to leave out) plus a lot of things I’d forgotten about and was pleased as punch that they took the time to even write into the script. (like the elves passing to the west…wow…)
the one thing they didn’t put in was Tom Bombadil, and I know why they couldn’t, didn’t, etc. no hard feelings. They even went so far (in the longer version) as to remind me about when they’ll actually reforge Narsil!!!!

I can’t WAIT for TTT!!! I saw a new trailer the other day and there are ENTS! ENTS I SAY!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!

I fear ents. Perhaps they won’t be badly done.

As for Narsil, you should note that they explain the “corrected” reforging of Narsil for the Movie. In the book, Narsil is re-forged in Imladris before the fellowship leaves.

On a side note, did anyone notice that Harry Potter v2.0 had alive trees and giant spiders? I’m shocked we didn’t see an oliphaunt

I was nervous about the Ents as well….but the graphics for them look PHENOMENAL. I think that having seen the first movie should put a LOT of your fears at rest.
As for the reforging….odd, that…I can’t seem to get a concensus agreement from ANYONE about when Narsil was re-forged. Yours is the third “correction” I’ve heard. I’m not saying you’re wrong – just that at least three of the four versions I’ve heard are wrong…
My memory suggests that you’re right, though…
Still, a slightly modified version is better than leaving it out entirely. I actually rather like the slant they put on it – “we’ll reforge it if you decide to become king”. cool.

The side note – you’ll notice two things. The similarities between the whomping willow and the Ents are near non-existent. The similarity between Shelob and Hagrid’s pet spider are too numerous to mention. The timing of the release of the two movies, however, is a complete coincidence, given that both were books a)long before and b)several years before the movies. I’m not shocked at all about not seeing an Oliphaunt. There wasn’t one in the book.

    Can’t Wait, but I’m screwed
I can’t see it when it releases. On Dec 17th I have to have my tonsils, and part of my throat ripped out.

Watching The Two Towers on the big screen while under heavy pain narcotics, while an interesting idea, does not appeal to me.

So I’ll have to wait a few days :(
