Bureau 42 Review – Doctor Who – “Eve of the Daleks”

New Year’s Eve is really not an event, in that the only thing special about it is that we have our own, human-made calendar, and it happens to flip over on the next day.  It isn’t even accurate outside of a few miles thanks to time zones.  That means that it is purely made up for marking Time, which means we probably should have been celebrating it with Doctor Who all along.  This year, Chris continues his tradition of preferring New Years to the traditional holiday special, and bringing back our favorite holiday villains.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 December 27

2020 Annual Finale!

The year is going out with a different looking line up, first, we have our regular series, with Pennyworth giving us a double helping of magic and Stormclouds.  The Expense gives no description, but if you’ve been watching, you know which disaster is going to be foremost on their minds.  Additionally, Discovery rounds out their third season, having discovered the future’s inciting incident cause, then losing everything.

We have two specials to start the new year, one as The Doctor saves earth from The Daleks, and one from Mrs Brown’s flashbacks.  If that’s not enough, we also have the next big episode dumps of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to finish out the chilling 2020, and Cobra Kai to kick off 2021!

Hoping 2020 didn’t destroy anything you love, and hoping that 2021 is better for all of us, Happy New Year!

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 December 6

As we crawl towards the end of the year, the seasons crawl to their end as well.  Daleks wraps up its animated offering, The Mandalorian takes a fan-favorite (and a clone) with him on his Penultimate episode, Will and Lyra chase their golden compass on the Anti-penultimate episode of His Dark Materials, and Discovery gives us the first of a two parter.  Seems kinda sparse, but on the horizon for next week is a return of a favorite butler and a miner skirmish.

Bureau’s Breakroom’s Television Table – Week beginning 2020 November 29

If the delay is the new seasons have you depressed, take heart in the fact that between Discovery and Mandalorian we are getting some of the best examples of the two biggest franchises in our genre.  This week, Discovery travels to Books homeworld, and Mando continues to reel back from learning that The Child has a name.  His Dark Materials has our kids quest to retrieve their golden compass.  The Good Doctor struggles with teaching.  If you are still looking for animation the Ducks have Scrooge and Santa Claus team up, and the Daleks continue their game of cat and mouse in the universe of 90’s level CGI.
