In the fantasy/SF/horror genres, you have two basic directions: embrace your premise’s absurdities, or try not to call too much attention to them. Walking Dead has tried to be realistic with gritty character drama developing from an obviously absurd premise that viewers accept as essential to the series.
This week, they called a little too much attention to the show’s inherent absurdities, as two of our survivor groups dealt with outsiders.
We learn the fate of the other characters, discover the answers to at least three lingering questions, and meet a trio of new potential allies.
The music world celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Beatles’ appearance on Ed Sullivan while, back in the former U.S.S.R., the controversy-ridden Winter Olympics continued. However, one thing could usurp these as must-watch television1: The Walking Dead returns.

On this installment of The Biting Dead, the Governor truly returns.
None of the regulars appear this week, as we learn what the Governor has been doing.
This week’s The Walking Dead brought us a grim episode that raised more questions than it answered, and then pushed them aside at the end by bringing back the Governor.
We also saw the best performances (thus far) of the new season.

Last week, Walking Dead shambled out the gate with a very strong episode. This week, the show does not really tell a story but, rather, sets significant events in motion for the season.
Daryl reminds us all of the dangers of distracted driving, while Rick learns who burnt two infected members of the community.
