Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “I’m going with The Blade – I have a particular affinity for 90s Wuxia films, and I’m glad to see this one getting a Criterion collection release – with this being my HD & UHD pick. On the anime side, I’m going for Voltes V, both for it being a strong example of a particular era of super robot anime, and for its place in history.” Blaine says, “of those I’ve seen, it’s a tight race between Catch Me If You Can and Galaxy Quest. Of those I haven’t seen, Marty Supreme and The Man Who Came to Dinner are near the top of my ‘should watch’ list.”

  1. It’s sad to me that Danny Kaye, one of the most talented performers of all time, is all but forgotten nowadays. The Court Jester is arguably his best (certainly his best known) movie, and is beyond worth watching. It is iconic.

    • We’re in the process of re-watching The Muppet Show and his episode was delightful. My wife commented that she loved “Hans Christian Anderson” as a girl and I realized…I’ve never seen it.

It’s too bad so few remember him. He was key to the success of White Christmas.
