    Yes, but they were wrong, of course.

    • It may be more accurate to say a lot of people hated the advertising for that movie. I worked in a theatre when it came out, and we sold a grand total of under 100 tickets opening week. That said, there was a group of seven guys who saw the movie five times that week. People didn’t give it a chance, including myself. A standard part of the contracts at the time was to guarantee new releases would spend two weeks in our biggest theatre. That’s the only one that ever got pulled after the first week; it didn’t just get demoted to a smaller auditorium, it got pulled completely.
