Black Sash Discussion – “Pilot” (series premiere)

The WB has a new martial arts show airing right after Charmed from the production company that produces Smallville. Is it worth a weekly column for this one?

    WB
I never heard of that show anywhere but here.
Of course, I don’t get the WB, so that might be why : ) I get their shows via Fox.

However, the WB’s web site had this to say about the show: “diverse group of teenagers”. That’s never a good sign. ;- )

    Is it Sci-Fi at all?
Just worth mentioning. I didn’t get any Science-Fiction vibe from it at all, but then again I haven’t watched it yet. Oh, and it’s on against Alias. Strikes 1,2 and 3 for me.

      And WrestleMania XIX! ;- )

It doesn’t look sci-fi at all, but it may be fantasy, depending on how much they play up mysticism. I must confess that I taped it but didn’t watch it. (I figured I’d learn if it’s worth the time based on the reactions here.)

I had seen the ads for it and it looks pretty good, but didn’t realize it was coming on against Alias. While watching the ad, my first impression was “several Jennifer Garners wrapped up into one show.” Has good possibilities. Hopefully it will be airing in the middle of the night sometime too so my Tivo will pick it up and I can check it out.

    against Alias…
putting a show up against Alias at this point seems suicidal. I certainly won’t watch anything else, and the show does sound at least tempting to watch.

    Watched Black Sash pilot

I had some time, so I watched the pilot episode of Black Sash. The production was good for a pilot, with the exception of bad lip synching in one outdoor scene. (I’m guessing it was looped later due to poor recording conditions at the original location.)

It’s a WB show, so it has the requisite gorgeous people with loads of teen angst. The martial arts seemed more realistic to my untrained eye than they do in most martial arts movies, and they’ve got enough relationships and story arcs in place to hold them for a season or so. (They will need to come up with others to last longer than that, though.)

In short, it’s not spectacular, but it’s a promising pilot. With a full review, it would probably score in the mid 20 range. I saw no indications of sci-fi or fantasy elements, though, so I doubt you’ll see any more Discussion columns for it here.

    Black Sash
This is a great show with value and a story.
Why must all good shows be on the same night? Look at Thursday nothing worth looking at on any channel. Black Sash would be perfect for that night. By giving the show a chance they may find it worth the effort.
