Firefly will fly again; more details

rickyjames
writes,
Filmforce has an interview up
with Joss Whedon and
the last page talks about the future of Firefly…which
includes a super-duper DVD set release this Fall and
apparently high probability of a big-screen movie. Keep
flying.
You’ll want to hit the “continue” link at the bottom
right away if you don’t want to see a Tomb Raider ad
before reading the interview. The DVD set and movie
announcement are older news, but there’s a lot of
interesting stuff (including a few more details) in this
interview than we had before.

    Skip…
To page 10 for the Firefly stuff. The interview is interresting,
but if you want to read about Firefly before you read about
Roseanne, its on the last page.

    Good Questions
That was a very interesting interview. For those of you who just skipped to page 10, I suggest heading back to page 9 (or even 8) to get the Buffy stuff, with highpoints including Joss saying he was f-ing with all our head with the whole ‘Giles not touching anything’ storyline.

Of course, that pales in comparison with the Firefly DVD news…. Commentaries by the actors, all the episodes, Widescreen….

    I’m going to my bunk.

      And in order!

    A little optimistic article title…
Unfortunately the interview makes it clear that he’s writing a script in
*hopes* of getting it made into a movie. As much as I really want this to
done, I fear that I’ve been disappointed too many times in this Firefly
saga to put too much faith in it.

On the huge plus side, the Firefly DVD sounds like a must-purchase.

At last weekend’s Buffy con in London I asked Jane Espenson
and Drew Greenberg about the status of Firefly during the Q & A.

They said that Joss is off on his own at the moment for six
weeks writing the script. Fox will then go ahead with the
movie if they approve the script.

From what they said I believe Joss has already made the
original pitch and it has been accepted subject to the
usual script approvals that any project of this type would need.

My money is still on Joss.

Oh man, I can see it now, they’ll film it – hate it and tell joss & company
to film FireFly the Movie 2. They’ll then release the second movie with
barely any advertising oppisite of The Lord of the Rings: Return of the
King. They’ll then release the first movie on the weekend of the
Superbowl, but only on Sunday & with no advertising. Fox will then say
“It was a great movie, but it just didn’t have any viewers, so we are
cancelling FireFly the movie 3 : Revenge of the Blue Hands”

I’ve read several times on the Firefly bulletin board that there’s a big difference between Fox TV and Fox Movie divisions, and that in fact the Fox Movie division has always been a major source of Firefly support. Hope that’s true.

Me too. Fox Movie is responsible for publishing two of my favorite video games in the past five years, Aliens vs. Predator and AvP2. I can’t tell you how many times a friend and I would sit down to play “just a few rounds” of Evacuation or Overrun at 11pm, and next thing we know the sun was coming up…

Firefly almost overshadowed Buffy as my favorite show of all time… I’ll be absolutely ecstatic if Serentiy flies again.

Some people just don’t get it. Fox never gave Firefly a chance, they wanted it to fail from the start, and they did everything they could to make it happen. But now we have Firefly showing in all new over seas markets. And Fox is gettings the rewards for that. Not the fans who did all they were asked to do. This isn’t the first time Fox has wanted a show to fail. Does anyone remember a little known show called The X-files. The fans were the ones who saved that show after Fox desided to cancel it during its first season. Fox never gave Space Above and Beyond a chance, NBC never gave Earth 2 a chance because it was costing too much money to produce, but they keep SeaQuest around for a couple of years. Has any one seen that one in reruns.I think the SciFi channel had it for awhile. I never thought that a spaceage western would be any good, but Josh proved me wrong. I was hook after seeing the second show, which I had to get from the computer, due to the show being pre-empted in our area. I’ve now seen all 14 shows, that includes the 2 episodes that were never aired. The storys were fresh, the effects were great, sets were top notch, and the actors loved the people they were playing. I can’t wait for the DVD’s and I’ll be there in line getting a ticket to see it. Unless the Scifi channel foots the bill for a made for tv movie. I’ll still watch it.
