Silver Screen Superman 5: “Superman and the Mole Man”

You can find the fifth episode of Silver Screen Superman here, which covers the 1951 George Reeves backdoor pilot. As a special added bonus, this one also includes the secret origin of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes!

The serial-as-movie/series also created the strong-personality version of Clark– totally unlike the original comic or the later movies– who became the basis of the John Byrne Superman. The comments on the Kent/Supes relationship from Feiffer’s The Great Comic Book Heroes— plagiarized by Tarantino in Kill Bill— only make sense with reference to the earlier version of the character, and not the one many people know/knew through Byrnes.

(Clark seems to be a bit of both now, I think).

And, yeah, I recall seeing reruns of the show when I was a kid, and being disappointed that Superman appeared so little.
