Bill Shatner wants to create a new Trek

Daemonik
writes, According to this Article
on Cinescape, William Shatner is pressing to have his idea for a
new Trek series be produced. Could Bill be better than B&B?
Could he possibly be worse?

Also attached to the article is a picture of T’Pol’s new uniform for
the upcoming season of Enterprise. Go check it out and be
awed, because this uniform is one of the stars of the new season,
or so we’ve been told.
I’m all for the injection of new
creative talent into Star Trek. Shatner’s involvement with the
franchise has primarily been under Roddenberry, so as long as
he can keep himself behind the camera, he might actually come
up with something worthwhile.

  1. Start Trek: Shatner
To. Boldly Make. A. Show. That Is. Better! Than. B&B’s. Attempts!

A! Three Year Mission! To. Improve Ratings! To. Stroke! My Ego!

The Fans. Will. Follow Me! I Will. Show Them! Gene’s Vision! Will. Live On!

(With apologies to both Shatner and Alexius – joking aside, I think I’d watch it just to see what he comes up with – I think we all remember a little something called Star Trek V now don’t we?)

I’ve heard of it. My High School Valedictorian took the time to teach
himself Klingon, but he told me that watching ST5 would be a waste of
time. Learning Klingon: worth the time. Watching ST5: not worth the
      time.

This almost makes me want to see the movie more…

Wow. I’m Awed I Was Mentioned, And Along Side Shater.

Well, whenever I read one of your comments, I can just picture Shatner’s dialogue in a movie/TV show being printed up that way (along with the added periods and exclamations).

  2. ….And The Bad News Is….
The new show will be called “Star Trek – Geezers Without Phasers” and will star much of the original cast including guest appearances by the ashed of DeForrest Kelly. Most of the action takes place in a Star Fleet nursing home where Scotty’s body has become host to an entire civilization of aliens creatures. Thee first season is devoted to the aging crews attempt’s to make First Contact with the aliens and drive them out from the poor Engineers bloated carcas while Scotty moans “Och! I canna take the strain!”

As for T’its ne uniform…they added a belt and a cleavage line…gimme a friggin break B&B you wankers!

  3. As long as he doesn’t….

    1. Act in it.
    2. Have any budgetary control of it.(part of why 5 sucked by the way- he spent all the budget early in the movie, so certain ideas they had, had to be cancelled)
    3. Base it on those ghostwritten books. (*gag*, and that’s just from reading the back cover!)
  4. Well, I guess he couldn’t make it any worse…
It would at least be worth a try, right?

Either that or let me do it. I’ve got an idea.

And I know it’s implausible, but T’Pol’s new costume is almost like a nod to continuity – it’s the start of the slippery fashion slope which led to the uniforms in TOS!

If They Start Putting Her Into A Skirt, and Then Shortening It, Then You’ll Have A Point.

[T’pol] Captain, I Have Come To The Realization That Though It Is Demeaning, I Do Get Better Reactions From The Rest Of The Crew The More Revealing And ‘Feminine’ My Clothing Is. Request Permission To Switch To A Skirt, Captain.

      ….Year Passes….
[T’Pol] Request Permission To Raise Skirt Hem, Captain.

      ….(Repeat Until Ratings Improve)

  5. Not that negative please…
I don’t thhink Shatner deserves this negative remarks. As I see the episodes of TOS over and over again, I cannot help noticing the overall good stories and the distinct personality of the personalities.

Some would call it lack of acting abilities, I see it more as putting their own influence in. AFAIK most of the TOS persons have more value than the cast of ENT combined.

I hope he gets a shot at it, it can hardly be worse as it is now, we need a fresh perspective and storylines whos only motive is producers that copy the good old cash horses and are without any (significant) fresh ideas for the last years…

Shatner was OK in his Heyday…but that was almost half a century ago….he really shoud bow-out gracefully.

I understand he was rather a prima donna on the show and pretty difficult to work with btw.

That’s not just btw; that has no relevance at all. Some actors are difficult to work with. Big deal. I heard stories about Brent Spiner not caring too much for his work on Trek, but he’s universally worshipped among TNG fans.

Assuming it’s even true, of course.

  6. Devil’s advocate again
    Couple things…

First off, I think to a certain degree, Shatner’s ego is justified. He’s Captain freakin’ Kirk. He’s been a pop culture icon for somewhere around forty years now. Sure, it’s hip to diss the guy, but if I’d been an integral part of Star Trek for longer than most modern-day Trek fans have even been alive, I’d probably think I had a pretty good head about where the franchise should go, too. And frankly, looking at Enterprise, it looks like he couldn’t do any worse than what’s already going on. New outfit for T’Pol! That’s a bigger joke than anything Shatner’s ever done. And Trek V was bad, yes, but it’s not the only bad film in the series, and I’d rather sit through it for the cheap laughs than endure the meandering farce that was Generations, or the mostly dull movie-length episode known as Insurrection.

Yes, his novels are bad, but then again, so are most all movie tie-in novels. I’ve never met a Trek novel I could get all the way through, Shatner-written or not. And Trek II, IV, and VI are among my top Trek movies, and Shatner turns in a good performance in all of them.

In my opinion, Trek has wandered far afield of what it originally was about, and an infusion of old blood might be just what it needs to get back on track.

      • Re: Shatner’s advocate again

        Lucy In The Sky

        Rocket Man

Always worth a laugh, though Shatner has admitted embarrassment over these, singling out “Rocket Man” in particular. I doubt he’ll get his series, but I’d have to agree with the sentiment that his take on the show couldn’t be worse than what’s happening on Enterprise.

BTW, there’s some amusing reviews of Enterprise at this guy’s site. I especially recommend Archer’s report to the “Vulkan Hi Comand” in Acquistions.

(And then there’s my own take on the year 2155)

        Rocket Man

Oh YES. Thank you thank you thank you thank you. The parody of WS in
Family Guy is among my favorites ever, even if no parody is needed.
