Comments | Story 51, and the first appearance of Jon Pertwee’s Doctor, the first appearance of the Autons, the first appearance of Liz Shaw, the start of the Doctor’s exile and direct association with UNIT, and the first story filmed entirely in colour and on film. This will be discussed in the “Doctor Who: 50 in 50” podcast series on November 11, 2013. Also the first story shot entirely on film, which is what makes Blu-Ray releases possible without upconverting. | ||||||||

Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “of the titles I’ve seen, I’d go with Doctor Who: Spearhead From Space if you’re looking for a one time story, or Doctor Who: The Green Death if you’re looking for something that lays groundwork for later stories (as recently as April, in fact).” Alex says, “Spearhead From Space was almost my pick, but I think I’ll have to rent the Blu-Ray first to see how much better it actually is from the DVD (in terms of features and picture quality). Instead, I’m going with Future Diary, as the premise (Early Edition with a more dark and sinister tone) has my interest.”
“When a German scientist says ‘hold onto your hat,’ he’s not making casual conversation. Hold onto your hat! HAT! HOLD! Goot.”
The Muppet Movie was probably my first exposure to the Mel Brooks. Classic stuff to this day.
Ah, the Pertwee years in exile. Good thing, too. So many aliens invaded earth at exactly that time in history….
