Premise

A gamer and an anime fan find themselves stuck in
Tokyo with no way to
get back to the United States.

High Point

Great Teacher Largo.

Low Point

The large proportion of bonus material. Half the
book is a lot; I’d
have preferred more of the main content. A lot of
the “bonus” stuff
is in the form of Shirt Guy Dom filler strips, which
aren’t very good
anyway. The short story was just entirely
unentertaining.

The Scores

This doesn’t add any original elements to
what we had in the
first volume. The only major change is the clear
story through the
bulk of the book. I give it 4 out of 6.

The artwork is much like the first; good
line art on the main
characters, but with variable quality in the
backgrounds. I give it 4
out of 6.

The story is really shaping up from the
first volume. It’s
turning into a real saga, with some good attention to
detail. It
reads much better on paper than it does with load
times, even if
you’re on high speed. I give it 5 out of 6.

The characterization is clear, but there’s
not really any
growth among them. I give it 5 out of 6.

The emotional response is mixed. The main
strips are very
funny, especially when Largo’s in the focus, but the
bonus material
isn’t thrilling. I give it 4 out of 6.

The flow of the main strips works well, but
the bonus stuff
is rather haphazard and significantly different from
the first stuff.
It’s better than it is when read in chronological
order online, but I
think it would still be better to miss days and have
coherence than it
is to use this much filler. I give it 4 out of 6.

Overall, it’s an entertaining book. Your
opinion of this
entry will likely be much the same as your opinion of
the first book.
I give it 4 out of 6.

In total, Megatokyo: Volume 2 receives 30
out of 42.
