Have any of you figured out a way to watch new sg1 episodes (ie this season 8 premiere) in Canada?

Space only seems to show up to season 4 or 5, and global was showing an episode a week on saturday, but I think all it ever showed was season 5 or 6.

    Any ideas other than bittorrent?

    Thanks.

I’ve been told (but haven’t tried it) that within about 4 hours of a Stargate episode airing you can download it off the net through various file-sharing services. Get yourself a $140 DVD burner and you’re in business.

I’m not advocating doing anything that could be viewed as illegal or immoral. I’m just saying that if you wanted to watch Season 8 and couldn’t find it in Canada, that would be a way to do it.

I’m also a Canadian but just started getting into it about a month ago. A buddy at work has been loaning me the various seasons in box-set form. He’s bought 1 through 3 and I’ve just finished season 1.

Great show! Kicks ST:Enterprise. Continuity is pretty good (a few minor rough spots) and the episodes are often gripping, interesting, and well-written.

FYI: Most of the larger P2P share files out there can be burned onto a CD, so a regular CD burner is all that’s needed, not a higher cost DVD burner. If you want to convert some of the large files 700MB and up, you’ll need a burning program like NERO, but the end result is a VCD, SVCD or an XSVCD that plays like a DVD on most computers and stand-alone players.

Look for a good Suprnova mirror. I suggest BitComet as a good Bittorrent client. http://www.bitcomet.com/

You don’t need a DVD burner. Episodes are usually AVI or MPEG files. Many are already in VCD or SVCD format so all you need is a CD burner. To reall cover you bases you could pick a newer DVD player that supports DIVX format so you don’t have to reencode files ot VCD format. I just bought a Philips DVP642 at Walmart it works great:

Or you could buy an XCard and watch it on the TV without a dvd.

Meh – do what I did. Buy yourself a nice, big 21″ monitor and download the episodes. I’m so rarely at home when what I want to see is on due to work and school that this has become the norm rather than the exception – plus my monitor has eight inches on the television I own, so I figure why not?

I live in Kitchener and have Rogers cable. I just found Season 7 episodes both on FOX-W (you need the time-shifting option to get this because it comes out of Vancouver) and on WIVB (CB out of Buffalo) both on Saturday night.

      Hope this helps. :-)

That should have been “CBS out of Buffalo”

Canadian viewers can catch Stargate Atlantis on Movie Central (West) and The Movie Network (East) Monday nights at 7 and 8 PM. They have aired the entire series and are airing the 2 part season 1 finale on January 24 (Part 1) and 31 (Part 2) then they are re-airing the entire season starting in February! You can watch Stargate SG-1 Season 8 starting Wednesday February 2nd on Movie Central with the first episode “New Order.” It does not look like The Movie Network (East) will be carrying SG-1. So people east of Manitoba will have to wait for the premier on Space. Space has been airing season 7 on Thursday nights starting back in September. They will start airing season eight on Thursday February 10th with the first episode “New Order.” (Note: Space is also airing seasons 1-6 of SG-1 nightly. Check your local listings.) So catch Atlantis on Monday nights, and season 8 starting February 2nd on Movie Central and February 10th on Space. Happy watching.

  2. Heh…
I love being British, we don’t have to put up with “discrepancy between zones” bollocks. If a program is on, anyone can watch it — and they’ll show one episode per week without these mysterious 5-week breaks that Enterprise seems to keep taking in the States.

You Yanks and Canadians don’t know how unlucky you are. =)

I am Canadian and proud of it!

And I know exactly how unlucky us Canadians are, considering I live in Vancouver, and drive by the studio where SG-1 is filmed everyday!, and I still cannot watch Season 7 on TV. Although I own Seasons 1 – 7 on DVD box sets. And I have season 8 on pre-order from http://www.amazon.ca

But Thank you for pointing out exactly how unlucky us North American’s are.

Unlucky yes but determined to get stargate we are.. just get yourself a satellite dish and get a smart card programmer and your set. I recently came across one for dishnetwork in the states. I only use it to watch Stargate on friday nights, so I can live with myself. I just cannot believe that the show is filmed here, but i cannot watch it until 1 year after it has been on scifi, which is not available even on canadian satellites…. rediculous. I had a great argument with the cable company and threatened to cancel my service, but they still did not get sci-fi for me :). Season 7 is currently playing on space and as soon as it is finished 8 will follow right after. but they are only in episode 10 or so. i have season 1-7, season 8 will be out on dvd before it is on cable :)..
