You probably saw it on Slashdot, but here you go.
Romulan Wars? In a movie? Why not in the TV series? Or a Klingon war? Or anything that the fans are looking forward to?!?
And what’s with the “new crew/storyline” for a movie? Wouldn’t we gladly line up for a DS9 (or even a hodge-podge TNG/DS9/Voy) film?
Why am I talking in hyberbole?
What’s Star Trek?
Since Enterprise and Nemesis, the biggest question for me is “Why should I care?”
To my mind, they’re basically cannabilizing their current series (by taking away a potentially compelling and fan-desired storyline) in order to do a new Star Trek movie that will be cheaper than one featuring the established characters. After all, if they do a new DS9/Voyager/TNG movie then those actors get to charge a premium for reprising their roles. By doing a movie outside of them, they can get un/lesser-knowns for half the price.
The production team at Paramount are weasels. We’ve known it for years now and it looks like the situation is going to worse before it gets better. Even more than before, this news has got to make Trek fans think seriously about begging Paramount to put ALL projects on hold for a few years…after very public firings (or hangings?) of Berman and Braga, of course.
Re: What’s Star Trek?
Except for the fact JMS has pitched a story to them. Not that I truly expect them to take it, but…
Re: What’s Star Trek?
How dare he undermine the authority of the dark lord Berman? Insolent fool!
Berma + prequel = …
<sarcasm>
Romulans? Hurrah! We get to see some more of these awsome
new romulan nosferatu vampires! They are the best! And that
Berman is a sure bet when it comes to expanding on something someone
else wrote, we can be sure its gonna be true to the already established history
and that it will be full of thrilling and, above all, original and unexpected
storytelling!
</sarcasm>
I sense a direct to video release …
… à la Starship Troopers II.

Tholians?
What about the Tholian War Riker alluded to in TNG? The Romulan War is beyond redemption now…
Fouth Season: Nothing to Braga aboot
Oh wund-er-ful. We finally see several more time travel stories before we are blown. Geez, how invigorating to see time travel stories.
Its not like a writer could craft a general outline for one season and do that story arc in that time, could they? Four seasons on one continuous story arc. Lets flog that horse Braga!
Re: Fouth Season: Nothing to Braga aboot
That’s absolutely unprecedented!. ;)
XI: Romulan War?!
If anything, it would be interesting to see the detailed events leading up to the war within the movie. That detail at least, has not been touched; virgin territory to a writer. Doing a movie that covers an entire war would be ludacriss.
