  • The Last Party Movie S.A.V.E. Blu-Ray/DVD: US
Comments Alex: An extremely hot-blooded, over the top action anime series set during Japan’s Warring States (Sengoku) period, with extremely over the top versions of historic figures.
Snowden
Amazon
  • Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital: US, CAN
  • DVD: US, CAN
Comments Blaine: I love the idea of an Edward Snowden biopic, but I’m not sure if I want a dramatized version rather than a documentary at this point.
Underworld franchise
Amazon
  • Underworld 4K UltraHD/Blu-Ray: US, CAN
  • Underworld Evolution Blu-Ray: US, CAN
  • Underworld Awakening Blu-Ray: US, CAN
  • Underworld: Rise fo the Lycans Blu-Ray: US, CAN
Comments Blaine: I’m still trying to wrap my head around how this became a franchise.
Creator: “I want to make a film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, but with werewolves and vampires instead of Capulets and Montagues.”
Studio: “Sold! Now that we’ve paid you, can you change your ending so they live and we can make a franchise out of it?”
Creator: “Um… that kind of misses the point.”
Studio: “Well, we’ve already bought it from you, so we’re going to do it no matter what. Do you want to do the paid rewrite, or do we hire someone else?”
Creator: “Um… okay, I guess I’ll do it, because I do like to eat…”

Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “I haven’t actually seen any of these, but Hitchcock/Truffaut and Snowden both have my attention.” Alex says, “I’m kinda a fan of Sengoku Basara, so on the anime front, that makes for a pretty good pick.”

  1. formatting comment: for the past few weeks, the titles have been in a tiny tiny font. Which, granted, does make them easier to find…. but harder to read (;

I’d kind of like to see the whole table format change. Maybe make the borders 1px solid, and make the titles bold or a different colour… honestly maybe make it not a table? (:

    • I’m open to suggestions. I made a template based on HTML 2.0. There’s something different between my settings in WordPress and Alex’s, since the font difference happens when he posts it for us. Sadly, as I’m going to be out of town for a while, that means it will affect at least the next three weeks. If you, or anyone else reading this, has suggestions for what we can do instead to help keep things looking good regardless of who posts, let us know.

      • Changing the cell borders to solid won’t alter the impact of the text, although it might reduce the visual clutter a bit by removing the double line effect. I think the best way to go would be to add some subtle shading for the title cell – a slightly darker shade grey, or maybe a bit of green to go with the rest of the site, perhaps?

        • I need to sit down and built them something in grown-up CSS/HTML. Time, however, is not my friend and doesn’t linger long…
