Here’s a selection of the lineup available on October
12.
First, the genre releases:
- 28
Days Later / The Omen Two Pack: I think these are
already individually available, but the two pack
prices tend to be cheaper. - Alice’s
Adventures in Wonderland: A $5 DVD starring
Dudley Moore (presumably not as Alice). - Bela
Lugosi: A 5 DVD ten movie set with an assortment
of Lugosi films for a very low price. - The
Day After Tomorrow: The first movie in a while to
involve Roland Emmerich without Dean Devlin. - Dr.
Suess – The Cat In The Hat / How the Grinch Stole
Christmas: A two pack of the live action movies.
I cannot recommend spending actual money on “The Cat
In The Hat.” - Eerie,
Indiana – The Complete Series: Yet another
cancelled show finds life on DVD. - Enemy
Mine: A pretty good movie that theangrymob will
tell us all about some day. - Gothika:
The single disk edition is already out. This is a
two DVD special edition. - Invader
ZIM – Horrible Holiday Cheer: For the ZIM fans
out there. - The
Sinbad Collection: Three Sinbad movies. - Stephen
King Presents Kingdom Hospital: The miniseries in
a single collection. - Willy
Wonka and the Chocolate Factory / The Wizard of
Oz Two Pack: Two great movies if you have
kids.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Battle
of Algiers: A Criterion Collection release of a
movie I’m not familiar with, but the details look
interesting. - CSI:
Season Four: There’s also a gift set of the first
four seasons. - Casablanca /
The Maltese Falcon Two Pack: Two great movies.
Highly recommended. - Dream
On: Seasons one and two: A highly respected (in
its day) show that I wasn’t allowed to touch, as I
was too young for some of the content. - Elizabeth
Taylor Signature Collection: A four movie set.
The Signature Collections are starting to come out
more often. (I’m still tempted by the Hitchcock
set.) - The
Farrelly Brothers Collection: contains “There’s
Something About Mary,” “Shallow Hal,” and “Me, Myself
and Irene.” - Hepburn
and Tracy Signature Collection: I think this is
the first Signature Collection to focus on two
individuals. - Home
Alone: The Caper Collection: The first was
amusing. The second didn’t convince me to watch the
third or fourth. - John
Wayne Signature Collection: As I said, these are
coming out more often. - The
Music Man / Singing In The Rain Two Pack:
Probably the two best of the classic musicals. - On
The Town / Brigadoon Two Pack: I haven’t seen
On The Town. I’ve written a review of
Brigadoon, but it won’t be posted until
early November, once the Halloween Countdown is
complete. - Ren
and Stimpy – The Complete First and Second
Seasons: Frankly, I never saw the appeal, but I’m
sure somebody here will have loved it. - Studio
Classics – The Best Picture Collection: Several
of the older best picture winners in one set. - Taxi
– The Complete First Season: For the nostalgic
among us. - That’s
Entertainment Trilogy: All three specials talking
about Warner studio history. - The
Wire – Complete First Season: A well reviewed
show I’ve never seen.
I wanna be a mongoose!
Behold the AMAZING invader ZIM! :D
I am surprised that it ends with Dib’s Wonderfull Life of Doom, but its one of
my favourite episodes, so I shan’t complain.
And Enemy Mine… I love that B movie so much : )
Kasambrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Re: I wanna be a mongoose!
Is this the last of the zim? the volume title makes it seem like just a couple of
holiday episodes, but I’m guessing that its more than that. To lazy to look it
up at this moment.
Waffles!
Re: I wanna be a mongoose!
Whhyyy is his head so biiig?
The Wire
Then get thyself to the store and pick this up. Quite simply the best television
series… ever!
Re: The Wire
Those seem like bold words to a man who watched his DVD set of Homicide: Life on the Street Season Three last week. I’ll have to check it now just to settle the matter in my own mind. :)
Re: The Wire
As good as Homicide was, and believe me I’m a huge fan, The Wire is even better. Imagine if Homicide hadn’t had all those network suits to frell things up.
